Hm I think this could be a great move, but I don't really see the point in removing the dedicated requests. I regulary see people who have very specific need, those forums were/are actually quite useful for that purpose.

Wow what a big move!
Congrats on this! This has to be the best move I have seen on WHT for a long time.

I think its a good move to remove the shared and and free ones, but not the Dedicated Requests one.

I agree and disagree with the decision. It's true something needed doing as most of the replies in the shared hosting requests were utter nonsense and hosts often ended up bidding under each other's price to ridiculous levels.
On the other hand, the dedicated requests forum, though it maybe needed a bit more regulation, was quite a civilized place. The worst thing that really happened there were providers not reading the original request and just posting standard offers that were nowhere near what was requested.
Overall I do believe it is a good decision.Proud member of the RIAA closed quaters combat cell !!!

All we can do is give it a go and see what happens.

IMO, the days of "free" internet were gone a couple years ago. People still pay for their TV, cell phones, internet connections, etc - why can't they pay a few dollars per month for their hosting?
If anyone is still looking for free hosting - they can go to http://www.freewebspace.net (I think thats the URL).0

I dont think we should even advertise freewebspace.net here - just let all the leechers have a good time finding it on their own.
Maybe we'll turn a few into paying customers too0

I agree with the decision, though I think, that after this,
will be a little bit more difficult for new companies!
And yet - this a decision, to a certain extent, will protect
novices from doubtful hosting companies.Bestbg - Best "Background" Services0

I think we can all agree that the purpose of WHT is a community, not a free market.0

why cant you calculate addons and tailor to the needs of people straight from your site, or through other methods of gaining customers?

I'm happy with the solution, in any case it's something that can be tried out. The forums that are going to be closed were rough, rough things to deal with. I think we're going to see a flood of people that just spend their time on webhostingtalk in only those forums on this thread soon - perhaps it will encourage them to participate in the 'core' forums that really make WHT shine, not just ads.
Just my opinion.

I fully support WHT Staff and iNet for its decision on removing the request forums. This will help eliminate most of the nonsense except for some low-end hosts offering the same $2 loaded stuff plans in the Offers forum.

I must agree this is a great descision. i think it will remove a lot of the reseller wannabe hosts from the business who would over sell drastically

It won't 'remove' them, but it will hurt them alot, I would think.

Why
Why are you deleting those forums?
You will lose a lot of people because of this. Those forums are valueble to this site. Hosting companies won't be able to post special offers or people wont be able to make hosting requests.
Please think about keeping those forums, or i will never post here again.
Thank you,0

personally I don't agree with this decision but what has to be done has to be done, no way around it. Yes, i can foresee this decision have quite a few of members unregistereding which means that they were just here for advertising which won't be much of a loss. about the levels all well, if they are truly here for the whole WHT not just the request forums then their level will incrase again.
