I know Ill get flamed but...
I think Dictator has a point. I mean look at the banner ads. I only see ads from major companies and one from a company that has over 5000 posts here. I sure wish someone would make a new set of forums so I could go some place else.
Matt says only good companies can have an ad here. I believe I have seen a few bad posts about dailtone within the last 3 months.
Let the flames or removing begin.

Well, it doesnt look to me like a lot of different companies are running banners.
I would think, if you fit the criteria (hosting, etc.) and are willing to pay for adverts, he would be running the banners.

Please don't invite yourself to be flamed, when this happens, ideas cannot be contructively exchanged. It is OK to have a difference of opinions, and it is ok that you do not like something or question something.
As you probably know, I personally do not review the ad submissions, so my comments are more as a member of these forums (which I feel I am as much as anyone else).
This program has just begun and I'd wait a bit to see more companies. There will be more, I'm sure, but I don't think Matt is going to put up just anyone, without considering a few things.
Dialtone has had a few bad posts, mostly by the same person, but overall it is probably impossible to find a host which has *zero* customers who were unsatisfied, or where something happened that shouldn't have.
Anywhoooo, that's about all I can say on this as it is mostly coming from a member's point of view, not someone who is in charge of this area of the forums. I will say however, that it will be nearly impossible to please everyone in regards to this. Some people are not going to agree with the policy, some people will understand it, etc.

I don't think that MattF is doing anything wrong here, but I do think that in the interests of transparancy he should make clear what criteria (if any) he uses to decide if a company is worthy of having its advertising displayed here. It is his forum and he has the right to be as biased as he likes... but I don't think he is, and publicizing his criteria would reduce the possibility of accusations of bias.

Aloha
funny the ads do not influence me at all ???
I am geting info out of reading not clicking on ads ?
I use analogies a lot
a carpenter has many hammers
framing, decking, finishing etc....
think of WHT as one of your hammers.
to me this is the hammer that is in use by me at this time if you want to jump ship here cause of the ads ?
do you feel like this about all sites that have ads ????
just curious ?

Announcement? Oh, there it is. Is there any way to get announcements to appear in the "new posts" search results? Otherwise I'll never notice them.

I have nothing against the ads being there. Just why advertise that people can buy advertising yet not do it. And yes I have seen the message from Matt. That and the post I refered to in my first post here are what made me post this.
