Starting my own hosting biz
I am about to start my own web hosting/design company. However I don't have the money to pay every month for a dedicated server, as I have no clients thus far. I need suggestion of what to do......reseller, shared, etc?
My main concern is that I want to be able to set pricing and packages for my potential clients. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Michael,
Sounds like a reseller account would be perfect for you. With a reseller account, you'll be able to control the packages you want to make and set the prices you want to set. All you do is create the accounts, and provide support for your clients. Your host will handle all the technical aspects of maintaining the server. And resellers accounts tend to be ranging from $20 to $50, which really helps for budget strapped people.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. Best of luck!

What reseller comapniesdo you recommend that will give me the most freedom?
Also, once I start generating clients, am I able to leave the reseller program and get a dedicated srver later on and take my clients with me, without losing them to the reseller?

check with the reseller host and see if they also offer dedicated server hosting. Chances are they should allow you to upgrade to a dedi server and transfer the clients to your server if I am not mistaken as the clients are yours.

Can anyone suggest a good reseller plan, where I can get 100% of the revenue?

well you would get 100% of the revenue in a reseller account. The clients are yours, you are the "host" that is reselling off of another host for a certain amount of money per month.
you can check out several of the reputable hosts on this forum by reading here:

Michael,
I think you're thinking of a different type of reseller plan. In the web hosting business, a reseller package is basically where you're given a huge chunk of web space and bandwidth off of a server, and given limited administrative powers -- enough to create hosting accounts of your own and for your own clients. You can divide up your chunk into how many little chunks or plans as you want. That's the beauty of a reseller plan -- at an affordable price, you have the flexibility to get your feet wet.
If you want, I can help you choose a host right for you, just contact me through one of the mediums located in my profile. Or you're welcome to search around using the search tool found at the top for some.

Michael, I would suggest that you go with Dathorn (I am allowed to recommend product here right?). They have a transparent server (means your client won't see that you're their reseller).
VSHosting is also good (great support by Shaun).
Just send them a ticket/email to see if they have a good support team and ask if their server transparency.
My advice is go to host that only offer Reseller hosting. This way, even if your customer know that you are a reseller of some company, It's no way they will switch (they will, if they have the budget though...)

You'll get all of the revenue. You only have to pay the reseller a set fee for the space and transfer. With a reseller plan, you basically rent some space on the host's server, then re-rent that space to your clients.
As for finding a good reseller plan, be sure to check out the WHT forums:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumd...p?s=&forumid=4
and
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumd...?s=&forumid=32
You can find some great deals there, offered by reliable hosts. But, be sure to search WHT for reviews of the host before you commit.
Good luck with your new business.

Don't forget to inquire as to what kind of restrictions the reseller account may have. Some allow overselling, some do not. Some allow you to create your own packages, others do not. Also, some will give you your own IPs for nameservers, others may allowing masking nameservers.
