Questions for those colo at HE.net

I got a question for those who colo at HE.net. HE's rack only comes with 15A of powers. So how do you guyz watch your power consumptions? Espeically when you got quite a few different servers like P3,P4 and Xeon servers.

Anyone ever overloade the line. What happen you overloaded the line?? Power broker kick in on the main Outlet and shut off the power on the cabinet??

Monitor your power consumption by pulling SNMP from your APCs.

And yes, if you use much beyond 15A the breaker will trip on the PDUs. You should be warned at 14A by the NOC. The PDUs also put out a loud annoying beep when a cabinet's breaker is nearing 15A.

The 8-port APC. You have an external led display too.

I have used the AP7620 which is an APC 20 outlet vertical strip and has a meter on it, it's not very useful unless you are in the datacente4r frequently, but in the cases I was using it, it worked out great to see how many amps i was pulling on each power strip at all times, you can also log into it and see how much power each outlet is pulling.

Very worth the ~$230.

15Amp power actually have their breakers break at 12Amps if I'm not wrong.

Are you trying to get the 2.5K deals with 100mbps?

Your correct, 20% of power is always reserved so on 20Amp circuits you can only use 16...15...you can only use 12...etc...

With HE.net, can you pay extra to upgrade to a 20Amp circuit, or multiple 15Amp circuits?

Not with the 100mbps for 2.5K. As for the regular rack, its cheaper to get another rack than add more power circuits.

Does this protect you from power surge??

I guess if I want remote reboot. I got to get APC masterswitch too.

The power in the DC is clean enough. You shoudlnt' need anything to protect against power surge. But I believe all APC do have protection against that kind of stuff.

It a waste of space to be not able to add in power circuits. With 15amps, it's quite dangerous to have more than 10 machiens on the circuit. I guess you may as well do Towers to fill up the space.

Can you shed more light on this? We have a AP 9211 APC Masterswitch and got SNMP on it. How can we configure (whatever) to pull such data from it?
