Grad School question

Hello all,

I am going to be graduating shortly and due to some goofing off my freshman year my GPA is lower than what I would have liked(it is in the 2.6-2.8 range), most grad schools require a 3.0. So I guess my question is since my GPA is somewhat lower than a 3.0 I am locked out of Grad School for life? Would I be able to take undergraduate classes after i graduate to raise my GPA? Or am I just SOL . Someone suggested continuing to take classes at my current school, but the problem is it is pretty expensive and I cannot afford to continue on much longer.

Thanks for the help,
Derrick

I would say you talk to a counselor for the major you are interested in attending grad school for. I am planning on going to grad school next fall maybe and aside from GPA they also need 3 letters of recommendation, and for you to have taken the GRE. If you can score sufficiently high on the GRE and have good recommendation letters you might be able to overcome the GPA problem

If you get some work experience under your belt you could get in, in a couple years. I had the same problem with my undergrad GPA but when I applied for grad school I had 5 years professional work experience under my belt and nice letters of recommendation from my boss and one of my under grad professors which I'm sure is a big reason I was accepted. Also I screwed up my freshman and part of my sophomore year for goofing off but then pulled it together so focus on that. They saw my last 2 years of school I had a GPA over 3.00 even though my freshman year I was only a tad over 2.00! That goes a long way. A solid score on your GMAT is essential if you have a weak GPA. So your not SOL. Give it a couple years or ask the school to consider the above factors and ask them to admit you on a probationary bases it might work.
