I bought a DVD burner for the main reason of being able to back up my DVD collection (much like I do my CDs), and for trasfering a few home videos to DVDs ...

...but I tried to burn a DVD from my collection, but it said it was copyrighted. Is there anyway around this, or will it just not work?

You could try using DVD X Copy:
