Refurbished notebooks, good?

I see tons of refurbished notebooks for way less than new ones. My question is can you tell the difference from refurbished notebooks from new notebooks? What's basically the difference?

Thanks,
Dan

You can get good and bad deals with everything. I needed just something small for my wife to drag around the house to chat on and got a good deal. One of the refurbed for just $150. Isn't very powerful, but it checks mail and runs Trillian great. Never had a problem in the 6 months we have had it.

Wow, for $150? Was this on ebay, or what? $150 for a notebook sounds incredible no matter how crappy it is (well, if it's REALLy crappy..)

Refurbs are usually populated with refurb parts from repair jobs so you get an already repaired model - they can go for years or weeks - at least if new you have the warrenty fall back.

Depends on the use - need reliable, get new, need an extra machine refurb should be fine - but it's just your luck with them really as you rely on the rebuilder skills

As long as it has a good warranty on it, and its a big price difference between the refurb and new one. I would go with the refurb, they are usually like new.

Can I ask where you got it? I'm looking for a notebook for my son (basically he just chats).
