MODMONO: ASP.NET on Linux

I found this Apache mod that enables ASP on Linux. Not sure though whats the difference between it and ChilliSoft!ASP by Sun Microsystems other than modmono is free.

Does anyone have this mod installed on their server? Which one would you recommend?

Chillisoft runs ASP (or a subset of ASP).

Go-mono is an open-source project that provides a Linux implementation of the .Net framework, I've been testing it myself (not the asp.net part) with C# and it's pretty impressive. It's Apache mod provides ASP.NET framework. ASP.NET is completely different to ASP.

Also note that .Net framework is fully object orientated and hence the languages it supports are also OO. If you're moving from linear PHP, Perl or VBScript within ASP then you have a really steep learning curve if you want to make sensible, efficient and readable ASP.NET applications.

Jake I think you are confused. That would be like saying IBM Java SDK is faster than Java.

Mono isn't a language. It is an open source implementation of the .NET Development Framework. Which fully supports C#. Maybe you meant the runtime for CLI outperforms Microsoft's CLI?

You can write C# classes that compile under either the Microsoft .NET SDK or the Mono SDK. In theory you should be able to run classes compiled under the Microsoft SDK in the Mono runtime, as long as you make sure the API you reference are the same and you don't reference any Microsoft specific APIs.
