Question

Hello!

I am a relatively new web designer in search of a good reseller program for my clients. Most of the programs I have encountered require that I provide all tech support to my clients and the web host company will support me as I support my clients. Since I am new at this, I am concerned that I would not be able to provide sufficient and timely hosting tech support to my clients. Are there any good hosts with programs that would provide my customers tech support and earn me a steady commission on the sales I have brought them?

So far, DreamHost is the only host I have found with a program similar to what I am looking for (http://www.dreamhost.com/resellers.html). Unfortunately, though, I really need a web host that supports FrontPage Extensions and DreamHost does not. They state, "We just choose not to support the extensions which are basically the "webbot" components such as forms and counters that are built in to the software" at http://www.dreamhost.com/faq/frontpage.html.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,

I have a host here for you that will offer you a commission on all of the accounts you bring in and won't make you do all of the dirty tech support work.

FP2K Extensions are also standard. Send me an e-mail at vince@jtan.com, I'd love to talk it over with you.

Hey new commer, almost anyone that hosts can work something with you. What you're talking about is a referrals program. You get a commission on what you bring in. What I'll suggest is to use this and some of the others such as http://www.recellar.com to find someone that will give you good commission. If you have questions about the company you're dealing with ask us. Also be carefull as to who you take customers to. Make sure that they'll provide your customers good service. After all, you took them there and someday you may need those people when you decide to start your own hosting business. Good luck.

Ben

It looks as if what you need is more along the lines of a referral/affiliate program instead of an outright reseller program, at least until decide you're ready to take on the whole ball. Things to consider are: do you want a continuing piece of the sale every month or an outright, one-time bounty? Some hosts might let you work out a deal on the former if they only appear to offer a straight reseller plan, while quite a few have programs like the latter. Best bet: if you find a host you think looks good (and who support FP extensions), drop them a note and tell them what you're looking for. We've worked around issues with people, and I'm sure others will do so as well.

Actually there's a lot of things Dreamhost won't do for you, and the support is at LEAST 24 hr turn around. I moved away from them a month or so ago and since then have realized there's a lot better hosts out there, for all their vaunted opinion.

Without quoting anyone directly, almost any host in this forum with a 'webhosting god' tag next to their name will be more than you need. The people who run (or work for) these hosting companies have proving to me over and over their knowledge and care at what they do. My best advice to you is to start at the start and read as much of this forum as time allows. You'll notice a theme of the people who are good (which thankfully is most of them), and you'll have a better understanding of not only these people, but of hosting in general.

I came here for exactly the same reason as you did a month or so ago, and haven't left yet.
