Unable to transfer domain after expiration?

I'm trying to get one of my domains transfered to another registrar, but because of problems with the original registrar the domain is now expired with them and they say I have to wait 45 days to transfer it because ICANN won't let them?

Is this correct? Any way to get my domain back any sooner?

Thanks in advance.

Contact the original registrar and request a renewal. Then transfer out.

I think I'll have do to that. Didn't want to, since the main reason to change registars was to save some money. Now I'm paying more than I would have if were to just stay put.

Oh well, guess there is no other way.

Better do it before it goes into the "Redemption Period" because then you'll ALOT more to get your domain back.
