Sharing bandwidth between servers
Hi,
Are there any Co-location companies that provide users with multiple servers a way to share bandwidth between machines at no/low cost?
I have three servers that I am interested in hosting somewhere and I would like the machines to be able to pull from each other without dipping into the quota, but I haven't seen much about this.
If I had to provide something to do this myself, what is the best way? Router/Switch?
Thanks...

Yes, just get a cheap desktop switch and send it along.
Or you could asked the colocation provider to put you on a private VLAN.

Asking for the VLAN may be the cheaper way to go. Otherwise, get a cheap (not too cheap) desktop switch.

If you are wanting to talk between servers without using public interface, install 2 nics in your servers and connect them to a small switch. Configure the second nics to only speak to the other 2 servers.

each server would require 2 NIC's. and if you wanted ALL servers to have outside internet access (as well as internal communication via a private network) you would need 6 ports on the switch, as well as 2 VLANS (each with 3 ports). Its not hard, it can be done with most companies that use good managed (vlan capat.) switches.

A basic switch is a simple and inexpensive way to accomplish that.
We have a bunch of servers for our e-commerce and other applications and they all back each other up daily through the switch... this means that we don't have to pay for any "outside" bandwidth to the data center. (otherwise, it would eat up quite a bit of it)
Then we do off-site backups for additional protection and redundancy but not as frequently as the daily backups. Overall, it has worked out great.
