ServerMatrix Dual Xeons

Hi,

I've been researching ThePlanet for who knows how many months, numerous threads of mine can be found here, but now they have the Dual Xeon which is so tempting.

After searching here and reading many threads (I still have about 10 left to read) I notice most are negative.

Now, being a webhost myself, I do know the majority of people who have good service aren't going to comment on it, for whatever reason, obviously, the ones who are upset will speak up.

So, while I am awaiting an email from Jeff about something which will ultimatily be a big factor in my decision I was curious if I could get all the people with good experiences to share them.

The people with the bad ones, I've most likely finished reading your threads today, but you are welcomed to comment and share them only if you have no posted a thread about it already.

Thanks in advance. =)

I have been with SM since all of the bad post started and have not had any issues. My server is one of their "stock" plans, so no emails to sales were necessary. I have experienced no downtime due to network or hardware issues. Pings are excellent throughout the US. I have also never misconfigured any software to bring my server to a halt, so have had no need to contact support either. It helps when you know what you are doing

they are good indeed. The only reason that I did not get the dual xeon servers from them is their prices.

Well, price isn't an issue. We pay several hundred dollars for our current server. Network reliability, no lag, and prompt support (when needed) is what matters.

Our request (which is what email we're waiting for) is a modified custom server based on their stock Xeons.

One thing that makes me leary is I've read bad things for gaming on their network. I do intend to run a few game servers, for personal usage. Though they won't be huge in size, and some not even public, lag is annoying in a game; I had this problem with a small dedicated server used for gaming at Rackshack. Constant lag (though I doubt noticable for webhosting).

Thanks for the commenting/time. Much appreciated.

I run private(as in I'm not a host) game servers on their network and have found it to be better than all providers I have used within the past several years. Have noticed that no player within the US has a ping over 80ms. I hear you are a smart cookie, so your game servers will be fine because the machine is not overloaded

What game do you run on there? If it's one I play maybe I could jump on it for 30minutes or so and check for ping spikes.

Like I said, the pings are 1/2 (average) from Rackshack's which would be more than fantastic for gaming, but I've read threads about them being bad.

I won't judge until I have experience. I am definitly hoping they were rare cases or faults of the person running the servers.

It is BF1942 (1.45 patch) running Desert Combat .40. You can get the server info from http://krackhouse.net/server.php
Wait until there are quite a few people on it and view those nice pings from that page.

I have 2 servers from ServerMatrix, never a problem. The one time a support ticket sat open for longer then I expected, I picked up the phone, and it was handled nearly instantly. Network uptime is 100% so far on my servers.

I also run a few game servers, Do you play UT2k3, Halo, or Enemy Territory? If so tell me which one, and I'll give you an IP for one of my clients servers on that game type.

I have had no complaints from any of my clients or myself about latency or lag on ServerMatrix's network.

Hi,

I play SoF2 [soldier of fortune 2], Urban Terror (quake3 mod). I have Halo installed, BF1942, Medal of honor allied assault (I play this, but single player only).

Last night I just installed Enemy Territory (Wolfenstein). I could easily jump on there.... just let me know the IP.

I have not played it yet, so I will suck, but I'm just curious with ping spikes. =)

I as well run gameservers at SM/Planet and have never had a problem or a cancellation by a client so far, (75 and counting)

Everyone seems very happy with the network and as a gamer myself who tries to get in a few games a day I can say from personal experience that they are some of the smoothest i have played.

We have had servers at The Planet/Server Matrix since mid March. The network and staff are great, no complaints.

I have noticed some response slowdown in non-critical support/sales issues over the last two months. I am sure they are working to improve that and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I was going to mention you to darktides, but decided not to because some people get their panties in a wad when you tell others where their servers are from.

hahaha no problem. We have servers at a few different locations.

Hosting servers at Planet is nothing to be ashamed of!

That's also my opinion. Some guy chewed me out one time for saying where his server was located.
