Atlantic.Net

I tried to buy the server but... they are really strange guys. They try to sell me old Ensim... old PHP... because the "PHP 4.3.3 is unstable" I send them what I want... they did not do it but charge me for additional $300. I told them that I need the last Ensim with security updates… I send them list of necessary software. They just ignore it.

Craig, their manager, promised me to send the written agreement but I have not received it yet. I guess two weeks are more then enough for sending aren't they?

In fact I waste three weeks and about $900 and I have nothing.

What's going on? Is it my unhappy star or it's usual order for Atlantic.net?

Well your best bet would be to try searching these forums first to get an idea of www.Atlantic.net. Then try contacting them and finding out the status of your server and get it resolved right away.

Good luck and keep us updated!

<<Tsuren>> Well that is a different problem now I assume. I think a sales person should know a fair amount of knowledge about servers...however I assume Craig is taking good care of your request at the moment...so you should appreciate this

The only problems I have had running PHP 4.3.3 is an issue with squirrelmail on servers with over 250 sites, What needed to be done is to drop down to 4.2.2 until a more stable release comes out that fixes the issue.

As far as 'old ensim' do you mean Ensim 3.1.x? If so they support stops for that Dec 31st this year so it would not do you much good plus it has none of the nifty features Ensim Pro offers.

I am thinking of getting some rack space there once I get down to orlando so I will be interested to see how this works out.

You might also want to ask the mods to move it to the dedicated server forum where it would be more suitable.

Yep! It was the first reason why I did do this message

I do not want to do the chargeback but it looks like i will be forced to do it

OKIhost., thay ignore security fix. http://www.ensim.com/support/wpls/index.html - they think "required" is just several letters without meaning. It looks that way.

It becames funny. They do not install what I want. BUT! They are going to bill me

He is writing:"While I can appreciate you don’t want to use it, I can not understand or appreciate what cause you have to cancel the agreement. As per the contract I will submit a bill to you for the remainder of the term of the contract. So yes for two years. If you can show cause to cancel, we will cancel. Awaiting your response."

Am I an idiot?

Sorry to hear that I hope you come out of this ok, I make sure not to sign ANY contract like this with the exception of my cell phone because even great service can take a dive really quickly sometimes.

.

So we can be clear.

*Note - While I will continue to work with the customer this will be my only public post in the matter*

Server was ordered with Ensim, backup, maintainance and monitoring.

Required software - RedHat, PHP, MySQL, Apache and ENSIM.

Versions loaded.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Running RedHat 7.3 w/ kernel 2.4.20-20.7

Apache is using this package = apache-1.3.27ensim-0ensim9
This is apache 1.3.27

Mysql is using package = mysql-server-3.23.56-1.73
This is Mysql 3.23.56
The client and php module are the same version.

Php is using package = php-4.2.2-2ensim11
This is php 4.2.2-2
It has imap, snmp, ldap, pgsql, and ftp modules installed.

The server also has phpMyadmin version 2.3.2 installed

ENSIM 3.5.17
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me take this moment to notate, I am a sales person, dedicated to the sales side of the product. Some of the upper and even medium understanding of software stablitity are boyond my skill set. For this reason I trust our team to communicate the technical side with me. Here is my understanding.

The versions requested by the client do not ALWAYS function properly. Apache and RH 9 were used as an example. So we will load them, however due to the instability we will not maintain and monitor the server. Building a house on sand is not a good idea. So when given the option the customer does not choose either. The forms are clear that early termination with out one of the many causes we allow (it is one of the more liberal contracts I have seen) requires the customer to be billed the total amount.

Now onto Ensim.

When the server was ordered 3.5.17 was the version released to us by Ensim. Why would we load something that isn't the best stable product out there, when of course we want the customer to be happy? So we upgraded the patch and that matter was rectified.

here is the sticking point.

Customer wants software loaded that we feel isn't generaly seen as stable. This in itself is fine, although unfortunately we can not monitor and maintain a box we feel will be problematic. It doesn't make sense and if it doesnt make sense it doesn't make dollars, for either of us.

So here is my over an obove fix to the problem. If someone beyond a shadow of a doubt can show me where we are being unfair, innapropriate etc. I will recomend the we discontinue futher billing to the mangement side of the house.

To greater success!

I disagree. Sales people don't have to know a fair amount about servers. And tech people don't need to know a fair amount about sales.

If my car is having a problem I take it to the mechanic, not the sales person. Same with servers. I did read Craigs response though and think he is being more than fair. Of course I'm a salesman not a techie so what do I know.
