Cable & Wireless

They have a great network and I am considering using them. Would this be a safe/good move considering their position in the U.S. market currently?

Thanks in advance.

Isn't it that C&W was going to pull out of colo, but still keep their IP backbone in the US (as a part of their global cw.net network)?

For bandwidth, it's still one of the top providers out there.

According to http://www.netconfigs.com/general/ranks.htm #5 in terms of numbers of customers + peers it is, so one of the top 5 networks worldwide.

Well, since Internap doesn't have any backbone that looks about right to me.

That's just about right, as while those are not among the top 10 networks, they are some of the largest and best connected ones, with the most peers and customers.

There are, however, many different ways of measuring this. My personal favourite, which I think is the most accurate, is the Knodes Index.

http://www.fixedorbit.com/metrics.htm

That seems the most accurate, as AboveNet is, for sure, the most open network of the scale that it is (tri-continental), and thus naturally [one of the very] best connected one.

Most other conventional indexes simply look at the total number of peers and customers, but this one takes it a bit further..

I personally don't think Internap is quite that great.

Agreed. I've seen InterNAP's intelligent routing act not so intelligent before.

the biggest problem with their intelligent routing is that, quite often, their network engineers flat out refuse to manually adjust routes. needless to say, humans are still better at cognitive thought than machines.
