Do contests make any sense?

Just curious about what you guys think as i recently participated in quite some logo contests here on WHT and was pretty surprised to see that like 70% of the people who initiated those contests don't even care to reply like after a week if they have made a decision on a logo or not.

I mean, if you post a contest at least you should be so polite and let participants know when the job has been filled or if you have made a decision.

Just frustrating to do all the work and people don't even reply.

It is fraustrating to do something and not get so much as a response, but theres not much the designers can do other than not participate. Just look at it as an addition to your portfolio if it helps....

Saw this happen quite a few times myself, including today.

Thanks for pointing that guy out to us in the graphics employment today.

Annoying!

I don't find a lot of time to spend on doing free work for a "maybe client". It doesn't seem worth it (to me).

And not just with contests, even with contract jobs, many of the employers don't bother to let others know if the position has been filled or not.

well, if you go out and try to find a job in the physical world, many places don't contact you either if you weren't hired. I remember the days when I went to my local mall to hand out resumes. I received like 2 calls for interviews and nothing from the rest.

But I guess "contest" should have better communication. But what can you do *shrugs*

Yeah but the difference is in a contest someone actively requests your work - so at least they should respond then.

Best thing to do is steer clear of contests unless you are certain the contest holder is reputable and reliable. IMO, its usually not worth your time.

Hi

Would it be within the rules to start a thread recording sellers and buyers feedback?

Just to add...

I have always paid and paid fast .

However when I have purchased services I find soemtimes it gets done..sometimes it does not .
A feedback system might go a long way to stop both problems

Best
