Level(3)

Why is it that NOBODY talks about Level(3) on these forums???? Are they too expensive? Is it that nobody likes them? What's the deal?

They are talked about, but mainly for the internet connections, not their hosting.

Heck, do they even do hosting?

No, they don't do hosting. I just never see the name mentioned. What is the overall view of their network?

they dont' offer hosting, but they offer bandwidth to provide hosting.

this would best be discussed in the colocation, dedicated servers, or technical / security forums.

Colocation would be right. Level3 don't do dedicated (at least not directly or not that I know of). Even then, unless you are talking about racks, they are unlikely to deal with you direct.

Their network is pretty good. A couple of years back they announced they don't want to deal with "small" customers anymore. Now they offer good deals in the 100Mbps and up range.

They acquired and integrated Genuity earlier this year - there's no Genuity team anymore, and legacy connections are being migrated over.

The network is quite strong, not the fastest, but very stable.

They have great peering too.

We've used Level3 for a little over 2 years. It just doesn't get better. 1 outage for less than 10 minutes during that time. There are networks that are bigger, but those networks are heavily oversubscribed in a lot of metropolitan areas. You don't see that with Level3.

We use it because we think it’s the best. We can’t afford to have network problems or bottlenecks. We pay the price for quality bandwidth and at our level the pricing to us is pretty much the same. We also have MFN and Abovenet. Our choice has been strictly based upon the quality and reliability and so far for us Level3 has beat them all.

None, some people just know it by different names.

Just making sure you're not trying to pull a fast one hehe . I remember awhile back, a rather *large* data center tried a fastball similar to that during financial/organizational problems (I wont mention the name), and claimed to still be multihomed, as they had "PSINet and Cogent!" , , ever since i've seen someone say "and" instead of "/", i wonder .

We've just recently switches to Level3, couldn't be happier, used them in the past as well without issue.

Level 3 is definitely one of the best networks out there, on par with AT&T, C&W, UUNET.
