Im trying to find a good datacenter with cheap colocation that is close to me. I am in NJ, very close to the city and the closest place i have been able to find at a price near what i am looking for is the NAC datacenter which is 30+ mins from me and did not prove to have the best networking. anyone have any suggestions?

XO has a facility at NJ. Maybe you can try looking there. They are in Secausus.

http://www.americandatacenter.com - They're in Secaucus as well.
http://www.tellurian.com/services/colocation.asp - Tellurian is located in Newton.
Equinix also has a facility in Newark, but is pretty expensive. I don't have any ideas about pricing for either of the two companies I listed above (As no pricing is listed on either sites).

XO is known to be geared towards lactency. We have experience with it on the West coast, but am not sure about them on the East.

How much colocation resources would you be looking for? And how much "control" or "support" would you be needing? Depending on those two, I think I know of a good arrangement you might be interested in.
Richard
(Please note, I do not benefit from the possibility of this arrangement. I am simply refering to someone else I know.)

first i would like to say thanks and its good to see someone doing something for a reason besides self benefit
right now resources would be rather minimal but hopefully would build up to larger very quickly.
as long as everything is working, i dont really need any support and i only need enough control to keep everything online, so the least of both that still allows me to stay up and running is good. I use the policy of "if it aint broke, dont fix it" so my machines will hardly ever, if ever, go down by my hand.
if you have a way that we can chat instantly (such as AIM or ICQ) that would probably be best if you could give me that, thanks again

besides the options mentioned, choopa.com has space at equinix in nj and c&w in nj. if you were receptive to a facility in NYC, i would have a couple good suggestions as well.

If you're located close to NYC, I'd recommend taking a look into some datacenters located there as well. There are many more datacenters in NYC than in NJ, and you'd probably be able to get more competitive pricing than at most NJ DCs.

I don't work for them or anything, but I was very, very impressed with DigitalPrinceton's network and presales support. Might be worth looking into. They have some unbelievably low latency to the upper midwest here. I just shipped a server off to them today, in fact.

What is meant by "minimal resource"?

NAC or a NAC partner would be the cheapest in NJ. DigitalPrinceton's Jersey City location has very good pings from local areas, but they are not the cheapest. AmericanDatacenter is probably the second least expensive out of all of the companies mentioned in this thread.

Thanks.
I received your IM, but was not at my computer, and it seems as though you are not at yours now. But, try again, and I'll be happy to help out.
Richard
P.S. Your status is available (even though you are not at your computer), so I won't know if you're available or not.

I grew up outside of Newton and my parents are actually still dial-up customers of Tellurian.
