A perfect case for life in prison

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/South/09/....ap/index.html

If ever there was a case to hold PARENTS responsible and put them in prison for life, this is it.

Stupid parents. That's a horrible thing to hear. You can't help but be mad.

How in the world can a 4 year old even shot a gun? Wouldn't one shot have made the gun fly into a wall or something?

Sure makes you mad to read a story like that.

First of all, what the hell are the "parents" (and I use the term loosely) doing leaving young kids like that at home alone?? Did they have to get their Bingo Night in? Or casino night? Or was it just their weekly outing at the local watering hole? Stupid pathetic people.

Secondly, leaving a loaded gun in the house wide open and accessible - purely idiotic.

I feel so bad for the kids.

Nobody ever said you had to have brain cells to propagate and multiply. Pity. These parents obviously should never have had the privilege of bearing children.

Lock 'em up for life, I say.

Vito

Personally I don't think guns should be in anybody's house -- but that isn't my place to decide that for other people, but if they do have a gun in there house it should have no rounds in it and should be under lock and key.

There is no doubt that these parents should go to jail for life for there neglegance.

Guns come in all sizes and calibers.
I don't know the details but I would be willing to guess that one shot did all of the damage.
I can't see a 4 year old taking a second shot even if he were capable.

That's terrible! Those parents should both get life in prison and have to attend victims impact panel and listen to other parents that have lost children to gun violence.

I agree with the first part but not the second as I think that they do realize the impact of what happens when you lose a kid to gun violence as they have already lost one, and could possibly lose the one whom is in the hospital.

Richardson said the parents could be charged for leaving small children unattended and for leaving the gun where the children could find it.
Add to that manslaughter, and add it up to a life sentence.

Those poor children.

well ok you may be right on that one.
I just do not see how parents could be so careless. I grew up around firearms, and learned to shoot when I was 10. I to this day (25 years later), carry a sidearm and am an advocate for educating the younger generation about them.
But to leave unattended children in a home alone with a loaded and obviously charged weapon is rediculous.

I agree. If I had a kid, I would not do what most parents do and put trigger locks on and keep my kid away from the gun. I dont belive in trigger locks or gun control.

Instead, when my kid was of a proper age (10 to 12 I think) I'd give him the gun (unloaded - but he wouldnt know this) and I'd see what he did. If he acted like he had some brains, I'd probably teach him how to shoot and about gun saftey. But if he swung around and pointed at me, I think I'd probably beat his little ass.

Kids should be taught how to use a gun responsibly. I lived in South Bend, Indiana when this case happened. I remember following it on the news and reading about it in the paper.

http://www.gunowners.org/op0215.htm

It was all that was nessicary to convince me that guns save lives. Criminals will always have guns, no matter what.

Background checks and all this other horse crap have done nothing to take guns out of hands of those who mean harm. The crooks just buy them on the black market on the streets or steal them from thier lawful owners. But they sure have infringed upon the rights of law abiding citizens to have guns and to do so privately.

Another gift from the GOP and Democrats to America.

These "parents" do deserve life in prison.

I'm assuming this was a wheel gun [no safety] and that it was left completely loaded with rounds, and not very well hidden.

I keep a .38 in my apartment, loaded, at all times. I don't live in the best neighborhood ... criminals will always have weapons, so I keep one within arm's reach at all times in the event I need to defend myself and my home.

But, I can keep it loaded and within reach because;
a) I live alone.
b) My cats can't fire a weapon.
c) I know how to handle a sidearm.
d) It is secured at all times.

These people deserve life in prison, if for nothing else than sheer stupidity.

If not life in prison. They should atleast be sterilized... certainly wouldn't want them producing any more children that they can neglect, and harm.
