Dont use theperfectlogo.com
Do not touch theperfectlogo.com
Last week we paid these guys $300 for a few logo concepts, because the portfolio on their website was very promising.
Let me show you an example of what they gave us:
http://matthewwallis.co.uk/logob.jpg
As you can see, a 2 year old could do better. The other ones I cannot show because they contain images which are freely available from images.google.com (probably copyrighted aswell).
We simply asked for a refund. We were told we could have a refund but we had to give them another chance - which we did.
The next set were just as bad so we re-requested a refund. They now refuse to give us our money back. Chargeback time for them.
We are now working with rosem ( www.rosem.com) and we are getting far better quality for half the price.

You know, I must say, you can't blame these fools for your own stupidity.
You don't ever pay ANYONE $300 flat out.
Maybe do a down payment? Or..? I mean seriously, your ASKING for trouble.

Well,
i agree that design is not worth $300, but:
as i am one of the guys who offered you their logo design services i have to say it might be your own fault. You informed us that you had "been let down by 4 designers already" and thats why you asked for free concepts - no problem.
The problem though was, you did not provide any preferences in regards of color, style etc. when being asked. All you did provide was some company logos that you liked that had nothing, zilch, nada in common.
So when i sent you some *rough* layout ideas <<<Link Removed>>> all you replied was this little sentence:"They are not up to the standard we require."
Hey it's totally ok if you don't like designs that people send you, no problem with that - but don't be suprised if you get results like the one you are whining about now if you just don't provide any guidelines plus don't seem to understand the concept of "rough layout ideas".
Really so not surprised you have been let down by 5 designers now to be honest.
Btw - what's the big problem? Any logo design company should include unlimited alterations and revisions until the client is satisfied or full money back guarantee, so simply tell them you are not satisfied and they should provide you with some more suggestions.
That's a common industry service standard and if they should refuse to that request, you have indeed chosen the wrong company.

Just to be honest Rosem screwed us by giving us this Superman ripoff logo the first time then giving another cartoonish logo as a replacement. When asked to make revisions it was as if he was insulted and he didn't want to do it. We just paid for something absoloutely crap and unusable. Just a warning.

From my observations, if you shop in the "design offers and request forum" you will get what you pay for! For a decent Corporate Logo, the basis for a Corporate Identity package, it is not unheard of to pay thousands. And for this, you are assured professional and original artwork, and less likelihood of copyright lawsuits down the road.
You will also receive original art work, designed in such a way as to be suitable for all media usage; not just a Website Masthead, which is really a minor facet of one's Corporate Identity.
$300 is not that much when you get right down to it...
You want to pay $30 for a Logo? Be prepared for what you'll get...

He is hiring as in paying money for design services if he has to come up the colors, concept, etc. why would he hire it out then? That is why he is hiring a logo designer so they will design his logo. If a designer can't come up with a logo on his own then he is not much of a designer. One thing is to be in the ball park and go from their on revisions but that logo for $300 would have ticked me off also and I would have lost faith that the company could produce a logo I want.
BTW--Rosem designed a logo for me a few months ago and I was happy with their logo.

As said, i agree that the logo he paid 300 bucks for at theperfectlogo was not worth that kind of money.
About the client making color suggestions:
It's not that the client has to come up with the concept, colors or anything - that would be ridiculous.
BUT: If you as the client give zero *information* about your preferences or dislikes for that matter, it's just no surprise if you might be dissappointed by what you get.
Designers are no mind readers - although that's a common myth.
