Maybe a dumb question but......

Okay I have a colo server at FastServers... now that is IN HE's DC or no?? Or are they just close... I am not understanding this now.. Is FS just a reseller of HE.net?

Okay I have had a server there for a month and it seems rather spotty as far as packet loss and I am not super happy but have have read such good things about the HE network on these boards.

Now if they are part of HE.net does that mean everyone is having problems like me currently or are just FS people having probelms? and if that is the case what is the difference between going with FS and other HE resellers.

I hope that all makes sense.. I am just not super happy with the connections with FS and all I keep being told When they decide to answer my emails is that they are upgrading and things are going to get better?? Not sure what they means.

Robert

Yes, it's in the HE datacenter. They buy in bulk really; and can offer you cheaper prices than just buying direct through he.net instead (they charge a lot more if you go direct).

You'd have to take up those questions with FastServers or HE though, probably get better answers.

thanks for the info.. I thought that is how it was set up.. I have taken those exact questions to them and I never really get a straight answer except they are working on it.. I am not impressed by them at all. I have servers in two other DC's and I was hoping when going with them that their claim to a great network would give me a reason to move everything to them.

Thanks again

Robert,

Though I cannot speak directly on behalf of FS, from what it appears, this would be my take: It's FS's side.

Remember, FS has a sub-network off of HE. In other words, HE provides FS with a cabinet, or a few, and a few lines for connectivity. Those lines then go into the FS network, and are rerouted through their equipment to all their customers, including you. So, them stating that they are "upgrading and things are going to get better" could mean that some of their (not HE's) equipment is being faulty, and that they are either fixing it, or replacing it.

HE itself is what could be said, from most people, "above average". That is to say, that it's not the worst, but it is far from the best.

If you continue to remain unhappy, there are several HE resellers that would be more than happy for you to switch. Posting a request in the Dedicated/Colo request area for HE resellers could be quite promising. Also, if you are wanting something other than HE, at a better price than what you are paying at the other locations, a similar request would be good.

If there's anything else I could do, just let me know.

Richard

robert,

they have their own network which your traffic flows through before it hits HE's network. just because HE is supposedly good doesnt mean that the reseller's network is comparably good.

Thanks everyone for the information. I am not sure what to do. FS keeps saying they are doing some kind of "cut-over" or something soon but what that means I have no idea.

I wish they would be more upfront and open with what is going on so we could tell our resellers and clients.

If things don't improve I guess I have no choice but to move.

Thanks

Robert

"cut-over"? Only thing that comes to mind is a cross over. I don't know how big they are, but it could be that the person they are getting bandwidth from is not reliable and they are looking at getting bandwidth from a different reseller.

I'd ask them to explain in laymen's terms exactly what's going on and not use any technical expressions.

Wink

Alright, apparently we nuked our forum a bit during the update to the new, savvy board software.

Some updates here:

Everything is rolling forward, still on schedule...
(fingers permanently crossed)
