Is the hd about to crash? - DMA issue

One of the servers DMA is disabled from time to time, - at least it shows that under status in WHM:

Disk hda7 (/) DMA+ 66 %
Disk hda1 (/boot) DMA+ 19 %
Disk hda8 (/home) DMA+ 52 %
Disk hda5 (/tmp) DMA+ 4 %
Disk hda2 (/usr) DMA+ 66 %
Disk hda3 (/var) DMA+ 44 %
Disk hdb1 (/drive2) DMA+

When I choose 'Optimize EIDE Harddrives' in WHM it returns back to normal as above, but then DMA is disabled again and I have to optimize it again. Is this hard drive about to crash or why is this happening?

Thanks
John

The IDE cable might be bad. Make sure you're using an 80-wire one instead of a 40-wire. (I've made this mistake before, and I felt pretty stupid when I noticed it.) :)

Thanks, it should not happen. The NOC will keep an eye on it should it happen again.

Only ATA66/100 needs 80 wires
UDMA33 doesn't (I hope you don't have such old drives eh )

My old Fireball KA didn't had DMA for months until the day i noticed a pin was broken, removed the PCB and resoldered, works fine

Given 'pin' and 'PCB', I would assume the hard drive circuit board. That, or the motherboard...
