Anyone in the North Carolina area?
If you are in NC, do you feel like you have a target painted on your house now? That big nasty hurricane pointing right at us...

….and dangerous. At any rate, wherever it hits, hopefully it will not cause too much damage.
While it is very powerful now, there are still high possibilities that it will loose lots of its power by the time it gets near the coast.

Yeah, the danger is the downside... How much do generators cost? Maybe it's time to invest in one...

Generators are expensive, and good luck getting one this close to a hurricane actually hitting... If you are going to get one, or water, batteries, milk, bread, gas, money etc. best to get your little behind off to the store tonight or tomorrow morning. Closer you get to when the store hits, the less stuff there will be like that to buy.
I'm seriously considering going to a shelter this time, but the idea of sitting in an elementary school gym for a couple days just puts me off somehow...
We did OK the last bigger one that hit, just lost power for about 12 hours. This one is worse though it seems. I haven't lived here long enough to have gone through many yet. We just missed Fran by a couple months when we moved here.

I do not know, but I know that they are expensive.
You may want to try ebay and see if you can get a good deal - but the shipping will be $$$$ (since they are heavy) http://search.ebay.com/search/search...ery=generators
Make sure you get plenty of food etc ....

Kinda doubt any you would get from ebay right now would arrive in time for this hurricane.

I wonder what happens to most DCs in the event of a head on hurricane or tornado. Mostly interested in Tornado, as those do the most damage.

I'll have to stay away from Washington until the storm passes. Can't have flying dogfood hitting me in the face now can I.
Sorry alapo, couldn't resist
Good luck with the storm. I must admit when I read the thread title I thought it was going to be about a female HE.net employee.

Here is SC I'd say that we're pretty much glad the storm is projected and looked to be taking a more northerly route. I don't wish it on anyone, but this was one heckuva' storm to put it bluntly out there.
