Good Level 3 colo reseller in San Jose?
Hi-
This board is great.
I currently have a 1U server that is colo'd in Level3's San Jose facility. I don't deal directly with Level3, I sublease space in a cabinet from a 3rd party. Network connectivity is 100Mbps (much more than I need). I currently pay $169/mo.
I really like Level3's throughput - my site loads extremely fast from pretty much anywhere, ping times are consistently low, and I've never had a network issue related to Level3 (over 2 years now).
The problem is that the company I deal with is exiting Level3's building, and moving colo customers to space in the Mae West Interchange. New network will be provided by Optigate? (supposedly much cheaper than L3) WTF?
Although I like my current reseller, having good connectivity is pretty important to me - also, there is some marquee value to being able to say that you are in Level3.
Can anyone suggest a good Level3 reseller?
Although I only have 1U right now, I am actually planning to buy another box next month, and another 2 in January. I don't need a full cabinet, or even a half, but I am wondering if there is a way for me to stay in Level3 without having my costs bump up into the $500 - $1000 range.
Any suggestions?

Have you talked to Level3 yet? You could probably get them to get you a list of colo companies in their facility.

Yeah, I have a call in to them, but haven't heard back yet. It's incredible that it's so hard to find a way to put a box in their facility.
I just talked with the guy from "Astra" - he can't do anything less than a full cabinet inside Level3. However, if I'm willing to colo somewhere else, then he can work with me...

try www.co-location.com ; they are level3 resellers and offer full rack cabs at $650/month at all level3 loctions. Plus they offer 1U or more at a few of those locations.

Thanks for the tip, but I talked to www.co-location.com already - they were not willing to go less than a half rack, and the quote I got was substantially higher than what you posted (once bandwidth charges were factored in).
I also talked to Level 3. They said that they were no longer doing any deals for less than a full cabinet (which would start at $1000/mo for 10Mbps), and were moving upmarket, targeting larger companies and large resellers.
It may be that Level 3 has raised prices recently, which might explain my reseller's decision to leave...

My guess is it's $1000/month for 10Mbit... plus the price of the cabinet space.

Yep. Although bandwidth was only 1Mbps.
The rep I talked to gave a standard pitch about "not doing anything less than 5 cabs" but I felt that was BS and they would do 1.
Having been in there for two years, I can tell you that their buildings over there are pretty empty - I asked the rep how they could justify charging so much more than others in the area given their abundance of empty space, and she said they were targeting larger companies with a need for more space.
For what it's worth, that is much more expensive than others in the area...
