Question

Content Management

Hello,

I have a little problem. I am running a flight simulation web community that contains news, reviews, downloads, articles, tutorials, guides and such stuff. Unfortunately our Mambo Open Source crashed and we are now looking for new CMS for the site. I would be very very glad if somebody could tell me some good free CMS's for a very informative and official site, should be easy to manage. Please do not suggest me to install PHP Nuke, PostNuke, I have used them both and they are not very good. I found the Manila Web Creator system, but it is not free. Or maybe somebody in this forum has own CMS system or is working in some payware software team, then it would be wonderful if you can organize us a sponsored copy.

Any information is welcome!!

Thank you!

Yep ofcourse. I have tried all popular places, but maybe there is some good script that is not popular, but used by professional sites.

I don't have $899 for a CMS.
Could someone tell me about a CMS like Webedit Platinum - I need a CMS that will edit my files. No database.

I currently have someone programing any CMS I need done using mysql. If you need any done in the meantime, PM me and I will hook you up with the guy.

I would like a easier way to do it myself.. I dont have the time to learn mysql database programming but it would be great if a program took some of the hassle out of it

Hi guys

There are a number of easy to use free cms around
PhpWebsite is IMO one of the best

and easiest and has the most active development community whcih makes getting new mods and skins and such easy

http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu/

There is also a great site where you can test out these open source programs
(unfortunately some of my favorites are not there./.but some are ;-)

Go
OPEN SOURCE CMS DEMOS

For ease of use check out:

ezpublish
phpwebsite

better IMO but not as simple

Geeklog

for enterpriase strength I like MetaDot((but it requires root access and not suited to virtual hosting)

If I can assist let me know

Best

I am in the middle process of installing Metadot in my VPS account. However at this point I am not sure if it worths all the mess of having to install a lot of Perl modules.

Anyway, i still don´t find a php product with all the features...
Metadot offers. Deluxeportal seems to be will be closer to it
someday (but not now)...

Regards
Alejandro

With all due respect to free CMS scripts it can't be compared with professional CMS application designed with respect to specific business needs.
I would appreciate any comments redarding SIBOX CMS Suite, it just has been released after 2 years of development. (I don't want to post a URL here, but Google should help). Any improvement ideas are welcome.

For article management, maybe you can try www.vezine.com. I would recommend it to anyone because of their features and flexibility. Some of their client have a really large database of articles and it still works really fast.

We are using a combination of Article manager http://www.interactivetools.com/prod...rticlemanager/ and our own CMS to manage a new site. Depending on your site I really think sometimes you have to do a bit of programming yourself to get the ideal solution.

THough there are already frameworks like zope and whats that other one...midguard or something.

I am lucky in that my partner on the site is a programmer for Airbus, which is handy :-) But having said that we found AM was the best off the shelf solution for publishing articles and reviews. Just needed some tweaking to get it hooked up with our own setup.

Its worth a look for sure and publishes static pages, which is always good for high traffic sites.

James

so are these generally used for companies so the less tech-savy people can add pages?

or for just making it eaiser for the tech-y people?

I can't imagine that it'd be all that much less hassle if you know what you're doing... maybe I'd have to see one in action though
