UK colos with low bandwidth costs

I'm currently spec'ing hosting for a client whose traffic is growing at 500% per annum. They are doing 60GB now, in 18 months time they will be shifting 1TB per month.

I'm looking for UK colocation with low bandwidth pricing, prefer paying per GB transferred but per MBps is OK. The host must have a demonstrably high uptime, be well established and have a solid financial record. They will probably be located in a carrier-neutral data centre and should have the expertise to fend off DDoS attacks (our site won't attract DDoS attacks).

Ideally the company should be able to provide the hardware. We're looking for a dual Xeon system. and we want it covered by a 2-hour hardware replacement SLA.

Any recommendations please? We are already talking to Datapipe UK, Caladan, Avensys and KDANetworks. Feel free to PM me to recommend yourself :-) although I'm more interested in impartial recommendations, hence posting here not the requests forum.

Thanks!
Gary

You say:

Isnt that a Dedicated Server? Or are you talking about the company/client you are hosting?

Here is some sites:
www.22host.com
www.dedipower.co.uk

They are my two favourite UK dedicated providers, 22host doesnt do co-lo but it sounds to me as if your more after a dedicated then anything else. And just a warning dont go with tsn.uk.com

so you're *really* looking at dedicated server providers as colo would be you supplying the hardware and maintaining it ?

any more info on the spec of the machine and service ?

Fast provider will give you a decent quote out of Dublin in Ireland where you will get the same latency and a really good price on colo or a dedicated server. They give you GB a month or a dedicated line, contact info@fastprovider.ie and they will give you a call their sites are being relaunched they are the owners of the likes of colocation.ie gameservers.ie irishcolo.com. Worth a try I hear they have quite a bit of space in dublin.

Dedi/colo

On the dedi/colo question... dedicated tends to imply server rental. We're happy to consider this, but there seems to be very few dedi companies in the UK that offer high spec hardware. EG The highest spec server on Ultraspeed's price list is below what we're looking for.

We therefore decided to see whether there's any mileage in a model where we buy outright a server through a colo company, then pay them monthly for colo and hardware maintenance but not for the server itself. A couple of companies have said they can do this.

The spec we're looking for is:
Dual Xeon 2.4 or 2.6
4GB RAM
Hardware RAID
2 or 4 x 36GB SCSI drives (depends on price)
Redundant PSU & fans
Redhat 8 or 9 (still deciding)

After about 2 years, the server will become a backend database server and we'll commission new frontend web boxes.
