Emails with garbage on account migrations.
Hello, was wondering if anybody has had the same problem and tell me how to avoid it. Was migrating from cpanel to virtualmin and to centos webpanel a few accounts. Was way of cpanel backup, then scp sending the backup to the new server and then new panel installs backup. Everything goes without a hitch, the only problem is that on the first connection to the server with outlook to email accounts, on either centos web panel or virtualmin, we get like 2000 or more emails with garbage. It's not spam or bad emails, it's just garbage.
It happens to all email accounts.
Has happened to all migrated domains at the moment. Like 8.
After it has finished downloading all the garbage emails and we delete them, it does not happen again and emails work normally.
Anybody else or just my bad luck?
Thanks

Since newly delivered mail downloads correctly, I suspect the ownership and/or permissions of the message files and folders for the mailboxes are not being set correctly. So you will will want to check those and change to match correct ownership and permissions.

Alternatively to what @steven99 suggested, if you're switching from mbox to Maildir format my guess is whatever parsed the individual messages out of the mbox file failed spectacularly.

Thanks for the input. From what I have investigated, all emails that were saved in the mailbox were transferred correctly to the new account, it just added a bunch of email garbage. What intrigues me is that it happens both on CWP and Virtualmin. After all the dust settles, the correct emails are there and it works normally. Weird. I tried unzipping the cpanel backup tar and found nothing extra files in email accounts.
Thanks to all for your input. I guess it's just happening to me for some reason. I don't see anybody saying me too, LOL.
