    Massive cPanel price rises [merged]

This will result in large price increases depending on number of accounts per server, thoughts? I guess this is what happens after a VC buyout....

    https://forums.cpanel.net/pages/partners/

Anyone going to look at other panels now?

We will be consolidating customers onto fewer, more powerful servers and moving some customers to open-source alternatives.

Seems the short-sighted bean counters don't understand basic pricing curves (increase the price, correlative demand will drop).

Well gee, who didn’t see this one coming. Guess they saw the massive increase WHNCS took in when they pulled this stunt and decided to be a part of that too

Whilst most of our servers will be up to double the current price, one has about 3k 'accounts' on it used just for DNS management and email forwarding, which has gone from $32/mo to say, $300.

    837% price increase?

This may cause some of the smaller shops to look for other control panels for their users. Over the recent years, cPanel has vastly improved their control panel, added additional funcitonality. WHMCS moved to this pricing not too long ago as well -- it seems to be the trend among our industry these days.

At this time, we're not planning on moving or changing our direction with our cPanel partnership and in fact, will continue to bundle it in for our VPS and dedicated customers. Some of the new pricing is an excellent fit for our business users.

The worst part of this move is that they're claiming the pricing change is IMMEDIATE. For any reasonable business I would expect at LEAST 30 days notice, if not 60-90 days notice.

I guess this is just an opportunity to help customers move to other panels...

This is one of the shocking news in hosting industry. Took me a while to understand their super complicated pricing structure.

They'll get a 30 day cash bump, followed by a slow and steady dump.

Plesk, with native NGINX support, will see a big bump in sales due to this.

Their unlimited pricing used to be much more than cPanel, but not after this ridiculous price increase.

They are going to give server provider a big hard time calculating those licensing costs and explain to client and billing. and also helping them to count $0.10.........

Interesting, seeing as Plesk and cPanel are owned by the same company.

Just to clarify: the price change is not immediate. As annual or multi-year licenses come up for renewal they will be converted to the new system for direct customers. Check the guides we provided for more details.

Yea, this was not well thought out at all and the timing is especially bad.

This very well could be the end of cPanel, in my opinion. I personally don't need cPanel to manage our servers, but we used it cause that's what end-users are used to. Now we have fodder to rid ourselves of cPanel when we explain that the licensing costs for cPanel grew exponentially over night.

This should have had a 6 month to 1 year lag time, given the market share the cPanel has. But I'm sure they were worried that more people would jump ship if they gave that much time.

I agree completely, to have an immediate effect is mind boggling. It's like they forgot about the companies who have paid them 5 and 6 figures monthly for decades. Additionally, now all the VPS providers and other shared hosting providers will have to change their pricing models to be based off of this change. So that will take time to figure out, which is why I don't understand the immediate nature of the change. It's like they just thought about themselves, not the ecosystem that they have built their whole business around.

I would expect a revenue boost short term for them, but that will quickly be followed by an a major decrease as providers strategize on how to best deal with this.

it doesn't matter. we only got 60 days to get the certification to gain more discount, explain to the client, change the billing system and etc. your announcement is just one hour work. but we got more work to do to help you count $0.10 for each additional account.

So for monthly subscribers, it is still immediate, right?

Would probably be helpful to a lot of us if you can explain the pricing changes simply. The FAQ and guides are really rather vague, almost lawyer-speak.

This thread isn't much help either.

A slight price change would perhaps would be more palatable to make effective immediately. This is not a modest change. In many cases, the cost of a license more than triples, and in some of these it exceeds the cost of the server, all with little to no warning.

In what world does this not feel like cPanel is screwing the end user? This is a stab in the back to the people that paid for your success.

Effective immediately, cPanel's license structure and the way we price our products is changing. Our pricing and licensing structure will now be standardized for all of our customers and include multiple Tiers

This was stated in their email. email was confusing, pricing structure took us sometime to understand.

You need to check the e-mail and the FAQ pages. All it says says is auto-scaling beigns 9/1 and does not make any other mentiomn of the word monthly, so I think the confusion here is that we're all under the impression it is effective immediately.
