"Breaking the law in the act of protest does not change the fact you are breaking the law," said Taylor Griffin, a treasury spokesman. "We're not talking about humanitarian organisations, we're talking about people who travelled in flagrant violation of the sanctions."
It does seem rather stiff.... but "we're talking about people who travelled in flagrant violation of the sanctions."

In my book they are traitors.

They were aiding and abedding the enemy and they deserve whatever they get.

We have a great country where we can protest in the streets if we don't agree with what is going on... but going to Iraq to do it? Come on now. Get a life.

Anti-war activists who visited Iraq before the US invasion have discovered that they could face up to 12 years in prison and $1m in fines.
The key word here is could. They will probably end up with a less severe sentence.

Civil disobedience has been a powerful tool for protest for centuries, going back to Ancient Greece. It has been used brilliantly by some of our great leaders, including Martin Luther King. Dr. King not only broke the laws he saw as unjust, he served out his sentences as well. He believed in his cause enough to risk the consequences.

I may not agree with the actions of those mentioned in this article, but I have respect for them and admire their commitment to their cause. But for their commitment to mean anything, they must, like Dr. King, be willing to accept any punishment.

I was completely against that war, it was mostly pointless. The only good thing to come out of it was that Hussein lost power. But have any weapons of mass destruction been found,

no.

There have been numerous threads about the pros and cons of the war. Inevitably, almost all threads dealing with Iraq or terrorism or WMD or anything remotely related turn into a debate over the war, and they also inevitably get closed. I'd love to see this one stay on topic and avoid that fate.
