we run our own small datacenter, and have a wide variety of boxes (1U and towers) that keep the network as good as it is

I have my own data center as well. I base site population on CPU utilization so our numbers are a little more fluid. Plus we put ecommerce on separate servers than the standard plans.

I own my servers, Co-Locate with US Internet... I like them

My original server was/is a Dual P3 550mhz, dual 36gb 10k scsi drives and 1gb ram. This server ran a 1 server setup of H-Sphere.

Now that I am expanding and adding 64 new clients (couple hundred more sites) I just purchased 3 new 1U P4 2.4ghz, 1gb ram, dual 40gb drives w/raid1 and dual 10/100/1000 NIC's. These will be set up in a 3 server cluster with H-sphere, and set to easily add more servers as I grow.

My existing server (Dual 550) is getting an upgrade to dual 700's, and will become my Backup/Fun box

Nothing real big, Burstable to real nice speed. Runs great, no downtime. We deploy firewalls that block ping and other traffic, so we reduce alot of un-needed traffic demands. We have everything else, just scaled way down to meet our demands. We give specialized service and support that requires us having our own data center.

You have to start somewhere. Not all of us can get millions in funding from stock holders.
