Cogent Spam

Anyone else get a Cogent Spam email today? I got three, to three different addresses in a span of six minutes. The kicker, the subject line and content are "following up on your request". Here's the gist:

"Information you requested,

I my name is Ike Densmore I am the Cogent Communications Wholesale
representitve for Texas and the surrounding states. I am following up on
your request about Cogents Transit and Transport pricing and product.
Please give me a call or let me know my e-mail what would be a good time to
speak with you.

Thank you.

Ike Densmore
Cogent Communications
Wholesale Representative Texas
469-227-6616 Office
214-621-7600 Cellular
469-227-6611 Fax
densmore@cogentco.com

(I removed the actual offer part, it just gets worse)

A few things, one, I have never contacted Cogent in my life. Two, if they are going to spam, at least have the decency to write in correct english. Three, the addresses this was sent to were data-mined as they are only located in a specific place.

Now we are all used to spam, but in this case, who do you report it to? If the spammer is the transit provider, where does it go from here? It's very sad that the transit providers (or at least one) are resorting to this tactic.

A letter to Cogent's CEO may not hurt...

Dave Schaeffer, CEO Cogent Communications
1015 31ST ST NW
WASHINGTON, DC 20007-4406
US
202-295-4200 fax: 202-338-8798

Unfortunately there isn't much further up to go as they run their own backbone.

Maybe remind them of their own AUP (http://www.cogentco.com/policy.html)

What Uses are Prohibited?

Unacceptable use includes, but is not limited to, any of the following:

14. Sending unsolicited mail messages, including the sending of "junk mail" or other advertising material to individuals who did not specifically request such material, who were not previous customers of the customer or with whom the customer does not have an existing business relationship (e.g., E-mail "spam"); or distributing, advertising or promoting software or services that have the primary purpose of encouraging or facilitating unsolicited commercial E-mail or spam.

Good luck.
