any experience with Hurricane Electric

Hi all,

I'm thinking of using Hurricane Electric to host my dedicated server. As I am based in Australia it is difficult to get an idea as to the reliability of companies based in the USA as there are so many to choose from.

If anyone has had any experience dealing with them could you please let me know if they are trustworthy or I should stay clear.

Thanks in advance.

Karl.

Hurricane Electric is one of the better providers here in the United States. I'd recommend them.

We are an Australian business and we have our servers in the Fremont, CA HE.net facility, through fastcolocation.net. We've been through a few DC's and we are VERY happy with the performance of HE.

Hurricane Electric is a very good provider. Their network is very nice. I'd definetly recommend them.

The HE people are really nice and the facility is great. However, their direct quotes are insane. It's somewhere in the range of $400 per MBPS if you only want 1-3 MBPS.

The network / facility is nice.

The only other bad thing I can think about is that their cabinets have 15A of power and are 40U. (Most cabinets are 42U and have 20A of power).

If your servers are electricity hogs you're definitely not going to be able to fill up the cabinet.

We've been hosting our shared servers at HE for a while now and also providing colocation services to clients there.

We've been extremely happy and so have clients. We're employing third-party monitoring and have seen very few problems. One or two reported outages, both being very short (a few minutes), and both actually not being full outages, just some packet loss for a period of a few minutes.

So, in short, they've been extremely reliable and we're happy with our decision :-).

he good

We've got a box at HE Fremont. It's a needy box and in fact i'm swapping it out tonight. We've had to call a lot and have people do various things to it. They always seem happy to go and do whatever we need done to it so long as its at all reasonable. And never any wait times. I started feeling bad for calling so much and began emailing power cycle requests. They were still done between 3 and 8 minutes after the email was sent.

I'm really happy there, and if ever I need enough resources I'd get service directly from them (rather than through a reseller).

i don't think HE does dedicated servers directly, you'd need to find a reseller. HE just provides either bandwidth in facilities or colocation/bandwidth in their own facilities.

i think that's accurate.

HE has an offer now in the appropriate forum.

I guess they do offer their own servers.

HE has offered servers for several years.

They were one of the first companies to offer dedicated Linux servers.

The reason you probably haven't heard about them as much as other companies on WHT is because HE's prices are a bit on the high side.

Btw, are you sure that this "special" is from HE directly or one of several resellers that are hosted at HE's facility?
