Question about The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

I just need to know what I have to do or implement in my site for the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). My business is located in the United States, but I have many customers in Spain. I am not really sure what I have to do on my side?

    You can read https://www.privacyshield.gov/welcome

The EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield Frameworks were designed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission and Swiss Administration to provide companies on both sides of the Atlantic with a mechanism to comply with data protection requirements when transferring personal data from the European Union and Switzerland to the United States in support of transatlantic commerce.

Judging by their website, the program is optional and you can use it if you want assurance to protect yourself from any privacy concerns. You can withdraw at any time, so right there let's you know it's not a required program or law.

I'm gonna add that this may be a great option for US-based companies who have European customers, but as it is a US government program, it wouldn't help much with companies registered in other countries.

There is still unclear information available about GDPR. Attorneys from EU claim anyone doing business with EU is supposed to do all compliance . However, there is no information on how to get the compliance done.

Your main concern will be your EU based customers (especially businesses) who may require GDPR compliance.

As you are their data controller, they may need you (especially your servers) to be GDPR compliant in order to continue hosting their data with your company.

Just ran into this a few days ago. It's crazy how hard it is to find exactly what you need to do to be in compliance. I did end up finding some information and a lot of it dealt with things on the customer end. There are some server side considerations though.

Can hardly wait to read about all the companies being sued (and the ensuing fallout), because you know that is coming soon.

Not sure if this may help in regards to things but this article talks about how businesses should comply if you look around in it. I got a email with it via my payment processor. About how to comply etc.
