DNS, Hosting, and Office 365
Hey everyone, I'm hoping someone can offer some advice here, as the domain and hosting companies seem so unsure when they give you answers. Currently I have a domain with GoDaddy. I also have Office365 email with GoDaddy using the domain. The domain points to a simple HTML page hosted elsewhere for a "Coming Soon" page.
I now have set up a WP website on BlueHost. I would like to point the domain to BlueHost WITHOUT interrupting the email service. I was under the impression I could do this by updating the "a record" in the domain's DNS with GoDaddy (NOT CHANGING NAMESERVERS).
Few questions:
1. Will this redirect the domain to the new page without effecting the email in any way? Will old emails still remain in place?
2. Do I add a new a record or update the existing one?
3. When I do this, on the Wordpress site, should I be making both the backend and displayed URL the incoming domain name? Do this before or after pointing the a record?
I hope this makes sense and I hope someone can put my mind at ease here. Thanks!

Hello there,
To answer your questions:
1. You should create an A record under your current DNS Service provider ( GoDaddy ) and point your web services under your web hosting service provider. This wont affect your mail services except if you will choose to remove your MX records from godaddy or change your nameservers.
2. You should update the existing one, if any, to avoid having two A records pointing your website into different providers
3. If you mean the "Site Address (URL)" and "WordPress Address (URL)" Fields under General Settings then yes those should be pointed over to your domain name ( domain.com )SnelBit.com - Internet Services!

Simply put you can just update your current A Record and point it to BlueHost and your email will not be affected.
As for wordpress you would want to update the URL's after you have set the A Record.

Thank you both for your answers. That's what I thought, but the tech support at the domain registrar (GoDaddy) was concerning. It went something like:
Me: Can I just point the a record.
GD: That will destroy the email.
ME: Even if it's the a record and not nameservers?
GD: That will work, but you can also uninstall and reinstall a new email if you want.
Me: *Seeks help elsewhere*
I know I should be asking them this, but maybe you know. Office 365 is ON GoDaddy, correct? I don't have to worry about it being hosted elsewhere when I redirect the a record? As long as MX records stay the same, changing A record should have no effect on the email?
Thanks again for everything, you eased my stress.

No problem glad to help, correct, A Record will not effect email, its MX Record that controls the email.

Personally I would let Microsoft handle your DNS for your domain and set the a record there for your site. Changing your name servers to Microsoft would be no issue and no downtime.
