United Colo - Be aware

I signed up to United Colo on 18th of February ($99 server)... Pretty good price, and i didint care much of the downtime and the bad network...

Anyway, on 16th of May i decided to cancel my server, so i sent them an email at sales and support. In 1-2 hours i had a response saying that as i requested my server was cancelled.

But when i received my credit card statement, i saw that without any reason they charged me on may 16th for 99$ (the day i cancelled, usually they charged my on 18th or 19th of the month) for June, but my server was already cancelled. I thought that this was a mistake from their behalf, so i tried to contact the account and sales department by email. I sent them over 3 emails with no response. I sent an email to the tech support and they responded that they will forward the message to the sales. No response at all. I even sent them a fax and i called them by phone with no success.

So i realized that i lost my money, and i just wanted to warn other people...

This is the reason why I hate to pay for a service thru credit card. I prefer paypal! Paypal all the way

Credit cards are fine, block the payment and charge any payments that shouldn't have been made back. Easy. You do keep all your logs backed up, right?

Hmm.. What do you mean by block the payment? Do you mean that I can call my CC company and tell them not to allow XXXhost to charge me?

3. This Agreement will be automatically renewed (the "Renewal Term") at the end of the Initial Term for the same period as the Initial Term unless you provide UCG with notice of termination either (a) at least thirty (30) days prior to the end of the Initial Term or the Renewal Term, whichever is then applicable.
Next time read the service agreement. It's all there in writing and you agreed to it by signing up. I think you'll find most service providers require a 30 day cancellation notice in most cimcumstances.

Wolf !!! Wolf !!!

Feel free to contact your bank or CC company about a chargeback, you won't get it if they read the terms you agreed to. Also, paypal wouldn't even consider this for a refund, as these aren't actual goods, but services.

Hello,

Tazzman's comments are correct, however, generally a server will be disconnected on the day of service disconnection request (with some exceptions). I don't know your email address, so please PM it to me and I will search for the email you sent us.

We apologize for this misunderstanding.

Thanks,

BTW, sorry if my previous post sounded harsh. I was on the phone with some idiot at my bank while writing it. Because of a mistake my bank made I now get to wait another 2 weeks before they activate my internet banking

Glad to hear Sagonet is willing to work this out

i am sending you a apm right away. I have kept all the emails i send you and the responses from the tech department.

However a charge back is not so simple. It is possible when a transaction company makes the transaction (like paysystems or 2checkout). In this case, i called my bank and they said that they could not do anything for it...

A chargeback is simple if you use a regular credit card, like VISA/AMEX/DISCOVER. However, if you use some sort of check card which deducts money from your bank account, but can also be used to pay for items like a credit card, then you are out of luck. And paypal might be the worst place in the history of the entire world to dispute for your money back. They have been known to simply crush people's lives by draining people's bank accounts and not giving them any reason. Their horror stories are all over.. however if you must use them, make sure you fund your payments with a credit card, and NOT your bank account. That way if there is a dispute, you can go to Paypal, and if they play hardball, you can just tell your credit card company to do a chargeback. Best of luck to you getting your money back, however the TOS isn't in your favor.

UCG since their inception has had a changing TOS. What is currently published on their site has changed much since I originally signed up last fall.

Hello,

amatsoukas: The email address you sent us is returned as user unknown and your PM inbox is full. Please PM me your email address again so I can relay this to our billing department. We might end up needing your credit card number, but PLEASE do not pm or email this information to us. You can call our billing number (866-510-4000) if you are in the US or I can send you a link to a secure submission page. You can also reach Vanessa Ortega (who handles all billing disputes) at 813-839-7242 ext 3083. I can't find an account under the details you sent, but I would like to confirm that your account wasn't active on June 16th. Once we get the information, we will be more than happy to return the $99. We just need to know where to send it.

Sorry for all the difficulties and we look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Sago Support
