need suggestions--reliable host for small site

I'm looking into getting hosting for my sister who is developing a new site.

The site will be fairly small (both in disk space and bandwidth requirements), but, as always, the site has potential for growth.

So, I'm looking for a host that can supply a package that meets her needs. I know of a few good hosts out there that have $10 packages as their cheapest deal, but most of those are overkill for my sister's site.

I'm looking for the reliability and quality of some of the $10 plans, but with less resources. Example: hostgator.com's baby croc plan--500 MB disk/15 GB bandwidth for $10. It's a great plan, but much more than my sister needs.

She doesn't mind spending up to $10/month, but it's kind of stupid to waste resources (financial and server) if they won't be used.

So I guess I'm looking for a smaller plan from a well-respected host, so I don't have to deal with reliability issues.

Any suggestions? I know there's a requests forum, but I wanted to get some suggestions before looking there.

Thanks!

you can email them and ask for custom plan with lower price.

There are many great hosts on this forums. Check the advertising section and place a request in. Look for established companies with phone numbers and real registered business names.

real registered business names.

And how are you gonna verify that it is registered? Even at that. I have registered my company's name with the county a while ago for 50 dollars. Thats right... 50 dollars for 5 years. I think anybody could afford that, so rating a business by whether or not they have a registered business name wouldn't be a good thing.

Some providers will provide free hosting, commonly under any one of three conditions:
1) you purchase something from them (eg. a domain)
2) you host it under their domain (YOURSITE.domain.com)
3) you allow advertising

Otherwise, it's hard to guarantee the reliability of a business. You can email them and see how well they respond, and also, provide yourself with "a way out." Pay by the month, so if something goes wrong, you don't lose everything. Money back guarantees are good, as is paying by a credit card (so you can request a chargeback from a bank).

I think you're off to a good start though. Realize your needs, and in your case: start small. There is always room to upgrade with any hosting provider. I've seen people pay for a top hosting plan when it really is not needed.

Try www.ehostpros.com i have an account with them from last 6 months, they are very good and reliable. The hosting plan is also very cheap like 4.95$ per month with basic features which are sufficient for a small web site.
Thanks

Take a look at www.enhancedhost.com smaller plans. They have been doing this for over 4 years and I can vouch for their reliability.
