Just a thought. You could try partnering with an ISP who doesn't provide hosting themselves, or a different strain of hosting (e.g. you host on NT, they only do UNIX). Hopefully, they will point business your way, because of the partnership. The same goes for a design house.

I suspect that the majority of the business pointed to you would be business hosting, compared to the hobby-hosts, it depends what you want your company to target... mass market or a niche market, due to the sheer number of hosting providers, niche market definately seems to the way to go... i.e. only tackle of small proportion of the market in terms of the technology involved, and be the best at it.

Just a thought though.....

Here are some things that I recommend:

1) Make sure your site is listed with all of the popular search engines
2) Make sure your site is listed with all of the hosting search engines. You can go to Lycos to get a complete listing.
3) Stay and monitor the forums. Don't try to get clients out of these forums, use the forums to get your name out there.
4) Banner advertising can be effective and there are several sites where you can advertise for less than $200 per month.
5) Monitor the USENET forums.
6) Word of mouth your business
7) Take out a classified add in your local newspaper.

These are just a few that I can think of. Good luck with your new business.

Getting a listing in search engines will defenetly be one of the best things. I do not suggest too much banner advertising as I have found them ineffective. People tend to jump on free offers. So if you offer something free with your packages it will help.

I've started a new site at http://reseller.amadns.com which has information about advertising. Check it out.

PS: The site is still under construction.
