Freewebs

Does anyone have a free website at freewebs.com ? And are you glad of their service ?

They claim to be the world's newest completely ad-free free host. I don't know what to think about it. If it's free and they don't have any ads, where will they get their money to ensure that the sites they host will be on for years, that they will be able to keep their servers running ?

All of these "free host info" posts really should be at http://www.freewebspace.net/forums

You answered your own question it seems.

"If it's free and they don't have any ads, where will they get their money to ensure that the sites they host will be on for years, that they will be able to keep their servers running ?"

The simple answer is that they won't and it's why free hosts go bust all the time.

Not exactly banner free
"All non-premium users are required to have the FreeWebs FreeBar Code on their website. This adds a very small strip at the bottom of the website saying, "This website is being hosted for Free by FreeWebs.com."
"...50 files per account..."
and so on. Read their FAQ's etc, and its really just a sub domain of theirs. I would think their ultimate goal is get lots of people on for free and then get them to move upto a premium account that they have to pay for.

I have used Freewebs for a few friends plain HTML sites since back in May 2002 now. Uptime reports are ~99.5 each month. It is however very slow at peak times and often takes ~2 minutes just to load a small GIF image between 6pm and 9pm EST.

Thanks, Robin

They might be good for a school project site, but that's about it.

yikes school project site. i am running a small internet business from my freewebs site.

i would like to take it to the next level though. I love the super easy way that I can update my freewebs site. If anybody can offer me the "next step up" I would greatly appreciate that.

Rock on!
