lol, seems my sh!t has hit the fan this week. Hasn't been an easy one (damn the Karma!).
Anyways, I have a client who is an avid email user and today we ran into a problem.
Someone was trying to email him, and they received a message saying "host unreachable". I checked around the forums, etc and couldn't find much insight...
This client gets about 70 emails a day without a problem... is this issue with my client or his customer?

Many posible reasons: The most likely is probably with the user mistyping information for the email field. Another reasons is: the client's email is having server issues.
Solutions: Try contacting the enduser directly and determine his ISP so it can be contacted via email about any issues they may be having. Also, check with the user to verify he has correct and working email still.
Take care,

Is he having more problems than just a single e-mail from a single sender? As blackbelt080 has put it, check his end for a mistype.
Is it slowly becoming that a lot of people aren't able to send to him?
- Check the mail server to see if it is having any issues.
- Check to see if configs may have changed
- Check to see if the domain is still pointing to the right place... have seen this happen a few times where the domain name on the registrar's system reverted back to original NS(s).
A lot of things you can check... It's hard to tell with such minimal details.

The server is running Exim 4x with Cpanel which may help.
Are there any known issues with this new version of Exim?

Yeah, my_client.com can't receive ANY email from HIS customer.
Thing is, I contacted HIS customer and the emails she's sending to my domain are bouncing also...
So it does sound like a server to server issue if you ask me.

Did you check to see if the server ip or client ip is being blocked by an rbl? Do you use rbl_smtp? Check ip at bl.spamcop.net

Also, do I run both IP's?

If the enduser and user are getting bounce backs, then it is more than likely server issues on the ISP's end.
I think you found the problem. Contact the ISP and see what the deal is....

I actually think this might be fixed. I just downgraded exim back to version 3 and some emails came in from a day or so ago. Quite odd.
Anyways, I'll keep everyone posted for thos who may do a search down the road

Just to anyone who may experience the above.
We downgraded to exim3 and all is fine now. We had 3 issues with email and all are fixed.
Not sure if it was exim4 or the exim4 + mailscanner.org combo.
