Cobalt OS Restore CD Weirdness

I have a raq 3 that I want to do an OS restore to.

I downloaded the ISO from Sun/Cobalt's ftp site.

Burned it.

And 2 of my machines, an Athlon(XP 2000 I think) and a slot 1 P2 crash when I try to boot them with it giving me a "cannot mount disk 16:40" kernel panic error. . . I believe. will double check if that's important.

The other machine I tested it on, a Book PC, with a celeron booted but told me my nic was unsupported. Unfortunately, it has no slots so I can't stick a supported one in.

Um, short of going to MicroCenter and trying the OSRCD in machines till I find one that works and buying it, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

is it possible you have 2 cdrom drives in that box?
cause the restore cd wants root partition on 1st cdrom drive

Well, the P2 only had one cd rom, but the athlon had two.

Same exact error on both boxes. I'll remove the second drive from the athlon when I get home from work and see if that helps though.

as far as i remember when the restore cd boots, it checks /proc for first cdrom drive no matter from which cdrom you started the boot process, but if your getting same error even if you have only 1 cdrom drive, thats strange imo, might want to try to boot from floppy drive, there is an iso of it somewhere on the cd called, eltorito.img (?) and change the way it searches for the root fs
