I constantly see everyone commenting on the lack of performance and stability of the Celeron processors. My experience so far as been the exact opposite.
One server I have is equipped with a Celeron 1.7 the other with a P3 1.4 Tualatin. The Celeron always beats the P3 in performance and speed. Both are located in the same DC and have the same memory. Even more interesting is that the Celeron has also been outperforming a P4 2.4 machine...although that machine is in a different DC.
I know that the performance can vary depending on the applications it is processing, but the Celeron and P3 have basically the exact same setup and processes running on it.
So I guess my question is, what is so terrible about the Celerons? What processes would it not be able to handle effeciently?
I am just curious as my experience seems to be outside the norm of the typical experience.
