Dictionary words for domain names

Hi,

Did you know that on the 7th June 2003 there are 72 dictionary word domain names being dropped?

These of comprise of:

43 .coms &
29 .nets

Do you think people would be interested in paying for a list of dictionary words that are due for drop? We are toying with the idea of setting up a site that displays the domains with dictionary words that are due for drop.

I'd appreciate any feedback you may have such as how much would you pay for a daily list like this and what kind of features would float your boat!

Regards,

Kevin

Aren't there enough services (dozens, at least) that already do this?

Interesting idea. Although even a one-word domain can be worthless, I bought "differentiable.com" for $5.

These aren't all exactly what you're talking about, and some of them aren't free, but there are plenty more -- this is just what I was able to find with a two-minute Google search. Maybe there is a market for the editorial part (picking the good ones rather than listing them all) -- though I doubt it's a paying market.

None of those appear to list only one-word domains, which is, well, what he's asking about.

Thanks for those links:

I noticed that some are paid for lists, which is something we would look to introduce,

As an example, these came from the 5th of June: (all .nets)

AHEY
LASA
SUNK
CHICO
EDICT
LAGNA
ACUATE
CARNIC
ENCASH
EUONYM
ALYSSUM
ALRIGHTY
APOSTASY
DISTRAIN
NEEDLESS
REINFORM
TEMPTING
DIDACTICS
MESSIANIST
PUNCHPROOF
THESSALIAN
AFTEREFFECT
SUBSTITUTED
COSMOPOLITIC
GERIATRICIAN
FERTILIZATION
ILLUSIONISTIC
MANAGEABILITY

I have a pretty wide vocabulary but some of the words are over my head!

Really, I just wondered whether there would be a market for such a list? Or maybe 3 letter domains?

Thanks for the feedback so far - I really need ideas to bounce to help me with the (possible) development of such a site.

Cheers!

Kevin

they have dictionary words dropping. It doesn't work too well though. If you could find me a good dictionary I could write a script to do this (and would need lists to parse as well)

But this shows that human brain is more powerful then the computers right now. We can parse things and make connections more easily. Programming something to do this like a human would cost millions if not more. What we need is a good database.
We could also just start posting the words we see dropping here, in a specific thread for each day. like "June 7,2003 drop list" and everyone posts the single words they see dropping or any other nice names

btw - i was going for sunk.net :-P and chico...until it almost hit 1000$ on namewinner

I see,

Nice site that one. We have the list parsed by dictionary only rather than combined words (for example I saw ahmedsaid.net on that list and I'm pretty sure there is no such word).

I fully agree with your comments about computers and human minds, AI has an awful long way to go yet.

We have the script in place thank you so like you say, it all depends upon the quality of the dictionary file. I can add mutliple dictionaries however, so I'd be confident that 99.99% of the domains that were dictionary words are picked up.

Ultimately, I think I might pay a few dollars a week for such a list, especially if combined with a service such as NameWinner's. I was just interested in everybody elses opinions.

Thanks kohashi - most appreciated

Kevin

your welcome I havn't seen a domain in those single word dictionary things on domainspond.com yet. And hikers.com dropped a couple days ago (3001$ namewinner bid got it).
So either their dictionary sucks or unless it is rock.com or dog.com it wont catch it. Or maybe it doesnt even work?

if you get this service running I would be interested in taking a look at it please PM me if you have any demo/etc.

Kohasi,

I will do. From the feedback on here and this lack of service on other sites I think we probably will go for it and see what happens.

The script itself is a snap (gettit?) to get working - the time will be making the site look nice with a pretty template!

I'll PM you, probably this Sunday, with a login so you can look at the system a little more and hopefully provide some constructive feedback.

Cheers!

Kevin

Just as a suggestion -- combinations of two very short words probably tend to be worth more than single very long words ... so it might be worth including them too if it's not too difficult.

chicago: that is the human factor. Making a sophisticated AI to know what is good and what is not is difficult. Reading from a database is easy. The quality of the database is what matters. Can you imagine how many short two letter word combinations there are? If you write a text file with all of them, I can write you a script to check them. Hows that?
