Cloud storage + hosting + CDN
I put cloud storage + hosting + CDN in the tile, but it may be cloud storage hosting + cdn too, as I am still not sure how this works.
I want to work on an xxx tube site based on MechBunny.com tube script. I was told that I need cloud storage hosting + cdn and that this is the best way to go. I've been used to the regular shared / vps / dedicated model over the years, and at this point, I dont understand how this part would work.
a) Is it cloud storage hosting (all as one) or cloud storage + hosting (meaning that I can get cloud storage, and combine it with some kind of hosting plan, vps or dedicated, and even from a different company)
b) can I get cloud storage from company A (lets say from Europe) and combine it with a VPS plan from a company B (lets say from USA)?
c) CDN is not necessary I would say. How important would it be to have it in place, for xxx video site, something like PornHub.com, beeg.com, or xHamster.com?
I want to find the best possible deals, worldwide, still good but not expensive, as this is an important aspect business-wise. I am also looking for UNMANAGED plans, as I will be working on everything by myself.
Can somebody explain me what is needed, and I could look at some offers too.
Program that I will be using:
https://www.mechbunny.com/adult-tube-script.php
I want to be able to be adding videos undefinitely, without a need of copying over the files to a different place / plan. I want to be able to add more RAM, processing power, too, to the hosting plan, which would work with this, when the site grows, and more resources are needed.
Like I said, I've been trying to find out how this would work these days, but I have not been able to get a good answer, and understand this, up to this point.
Thanks.

Am not sure what do you mean by Cloud Storage ? You can either get a Cloud hosting [Requires bit of expertise] or any other hosting that matches your requirement with any of the CDN services to keep the latency low [Only if you're targeting visitors globally].

I need something like this
a) cloud storage
b) vps / dedicated plan (low level, unmetered bandwidth) with nfs mount to the cloud storage
c) cdn using the cloud storage as origin (I am not sure if the cdn part is necessary for an xxx tube site)
All unmanaged, no WHM / cPanel needed, and I need it at the lowest possible price on the worldwide scale (this is important, I need to get it at the lowest level price possible, and I can pay for 12 months in advance).

You will need to fulfill the following roles to your project:
- developer. This guy will be able to handle this software that you will be using.
- sysadmin. This guy will be able to handle software installation and proper server setup for your software
Then you are going to need a server to host this project. Sysadmin will advice you at a later stage -when you are going to be getting lots of traffic- to use a cdn and configure it properly. If you get a managed server service, the sysadmin role could be done by the server hosting company (you'd better clarify that with the hosting company before the order).| | MassiveGRID.com - The High Availability Cloud Provider with Global Coverage

@MassiveGRID - I will be working on everything by myself, and I learned from this that I can consider adding the CDN part later on. This is good, as I did not think about it in this way, so I am one step further in researching this. All this is planned to be self-managed, 100%, as I want to save $$$ on the hosting plan / plans. I will be researching, contacting different companies, and trying to negotiate the best deals. If I get managed, I just sign up and pay like $500 per month for hosting, and if I know how to do everything by myself, I can try to find something for $100, which is good.

As a question related to this, can I get:
a) vps / dedicated plan
b) cloud storage
c) cdn
all from different companies, or does it have to all come from one place? Like vps plan would be in NYC, cloud storage in Atlanta (although it probably does not make too much sense), and the cdn part in LA. Would this work, and is it better to have it all in one place (I think it is, but I am not sure, I am still researching this).

CDN is a service that is delivered from various facilities around the world. You can get this service from any company.
As I understand you'll be using the cloud storage service to store the videos. This could be a very tricky part due to the fact that the cloud storage service might not have adequate performance for your video streaming service. You will have to be very careful examining the specs of the cloud storage service you'll choose.
Server and Cloud Storage service is a good idea to be in the same place.
CDN will be at multiple places because it is designed to be that way.| | MassiveGRID.com - The High Availability Cloud Provider with Global Coverage

@MassiveGRID - So how would this work as far as cloud storage and streaming videos, if I can ask? The script would be https://www.mechbunny.com/adult-tube-script.php (another very good program for this is http://kernel-video-sharing.com). Like I said, cloud storage would be an NFS mount on the vps or dedicated plan. I am learning Linux now, in depth, so what parameters would I need to be looking at, as far as the cloud storage part? How fast the disks are, what type of disk (SSD vs. HDD), I guess this would come down to certain hardware specs that are needed with this...
There is also http://wowza.com, which can be possibly added to this, but I am not sure how this works yet. I may be using Apache and Nginx at the same time also.
This is from the KVS site (http://www.kernel-video-sharing.com/en/requirements/):
Minimum server requirements
Unix-like OS (Windows is not supported)
PHP 5.3, 5.4, 5.5
IonCube Loader 4.6.1 or above
Mysql 5.0 or above and its support in PHP
FFmpeg 1.0 or above with libx264, libavfilter and AAC codec (libfaac, libfdk_aac or native ffmpeg aac codec)
ImageMagick
cURL and its support in PHP
Apache + mod_rewrite + (MultiViews option disabled)
Non-cyrillic domain name
Minimum PHP requirements
Zlib library
XML extension
GD2 with true type font (required!)
Ability to exec PHP from CLI using exec() command
PHP register_globals off
PHP magic_quotes_gpc off
PHP safe_mode off
PHP file_uploads on
PHP allow_url_fopen on
Recommended configuration (very desired)
Memcache and its support in PHP
Nginx (configured with options: --with-http_flv_module --with-http_mp4_module) + Apache (via reverse proxy)
Using eAccelerator or XCache is NOT recommended
People were also mentioning other things with this, like load balancing for example, and saying that running a site like this is not a "trivial task", especially when it grows and it gets a lot of hits.

Personally I would suggest building this by using a dedicated cloud storage and a dedicated server (or a very good quality vps). You can start with slow spinning drives in your cloud storage and caching at the server level.
Later you can add a cdn service.
In order this to work well you will definitely have to use a streaming server like wowza and configure it properly so it can utilize caching mechanisms.
Additionally, you will have to add many monitoring mechanisms in order to closely monitor every aspect of the whole platform so you can predict early enough congestion issues and act proactively improving or upgrading the relevant resources.

What monitoring mechanisms would this be, if you would be willing to share the info? I am learning Linux now, and I will be going over all these things in detail (theory + practice, I've already read 10+ general books, and I will be reading like 30 total, I think, the best that are out there now). Linux terms / commands, or some keywords that I could research in google.com would be good enough, or maybe some websites about it.
Like I said, in general, I want to do it all self-managed, and at a relatively good price.
