    SSD Catching vs Pure SSD what will you recommend - cPanel Shared Hosting

    Does using pure SSD really helps improve performance? If so how much?
    In general will you recommend pure SSD or just SSD catching is sufficient.

    For selling shared hosting, go with pure SSD if you can. You will notice an overall performance boost.

    Pure SSD is generally faster but this is very much dependent on your disk configuration. We use some SANs with tiered SSD caching that will easily deliver more iops early generation pure SSD disks. So impossible to set a rule that covers everything.

    Hi Matthew. I understand that. I am not talking about old SSD's. Considering this is a new build with fairly new SSD's what will you recommend?

    It really comes down to cost.

    If you can stomach a pure SSD cost, then that's definitely the route to take. There is absolutely no downside besides being cost prohibitive.

    It is better to go pure SSD since is the future of the today .

    However most of the hosting providers lie for their ssd drives been pure .. Most of the cheap providers with "Pure ssd" are hybrids pure cache and that's all..

    I would suggest you to avoid such providers.

    Who are still using those SSDs? Currently market is flooded with Samsung Enterprise SSDs. I suggest to go for only SSD and make sure they are Samsung Enterprise grade. You can always confirm that from your provider before purchase.

    Use SSDs only for MySQL part. The /home part is playing great with HW raid and fast hard drives.

    ^ This. "SSD" is a buzzword, along with cloud. It may not be any faster than a good spinning disc.

    @Himanshu1988: And it's "caching. Cache.
    Not catching. That's for baseball.

    Sorry for bad typo

    And thanks for your input. But how do I decide to go with pure SSD or just SSD caching. I am getting more and more confused. I do understand that normal HDD can also deliver good performance but still. If it's a new build what will you do? What are the metrics I should be looking for?

    Pure SSD will always perform better.
