Own IP's: advantages vs disadvantages

I have a few questions concerning whether someone shall or not use a fixed IP instead of a dynamic one, when hosting multiple domains:

1) What are the benefits of having a fixed IP?
Any impact on the speed or performance?

2) In what conditions is it necessary or better to have one?
E.g.: custom nameservers, security reasons?

3) Besides the cost of IPs, what are the disadvantages or problems resulting from using a fixed IP instead of a dynamic one?
E.g.: any problems on privacy or security?

Its not so much a Dynamic IP, as it is a shared IP...

Ie multiple domains use the same ip.

A dedicated ip is genrally used for SSL or a dedicated box ...

With a dedicated IP you can load the site via said IP, but generally, a Virtual host ( dynamic ip) loads the first site or default site in the listing.

For clarity's sake, don't use "<ip address of hostname>" use the ACTUAL 32-bit numeric IP address of the machine.

It can also come up as the "Hey, it worked !
The SSL/TLS-aware Apache webserver was
successfully installed on this website. "

1) There are some people saying that a fixed ip helps search engine rankings. But that's unverified. Speed wise is unaffected as the IPs do not determine the speed. It is more of a function of the load, and traffic on a particular server.

2) It's better to have one for SSL, custom nameservers, and anonymous FTP

3) Don't see any disadvantages.
