After how many months of rent should your server be paid off?
After how many months of rent should your server be paid off? For example:
I buy a server for 600 dollars, and offer it to someone for 100 dollars per month with no setup fees. Lets pretend that the bandwidth and other expenses cost me 60 of the 100 dollars per month, so that is 40 dollars profit. $40 x 15 months equals 600 dollars, so after 15 months my server will be completely paid for.
After how many months do you think a server should be paid for? Thanks, Kyle

Tazzy, Didn't The Laughing Cow get there before you?
VDAonline, that deserves an award for "most off topic reply, ever" - try reading his post.
Kyle - I believe the setup is intended to offset some hardware costs, and a $600 server is normally a bit more than $99 a month. You should also consider the value of the server at the end of the 15 months - very little, with all honesty. When you factor in your other costs you're running at a loss for well over a year, and then your customer leaves (because after all, who's going to sign up for another year with an older server?) - then your left with an unrentable server.
You should aim to get back the server cost inside of the initial contract period (hence why a month-to-month contract has a higher setup fee than a yearly one), and don't attempt to match the prices of lower hosts, who benefit from economies of scale, you'll just go bust.
