Wash your hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pet peeve of mine. As you can well imagine, plenty of folks, when alone in a public restroom, will not actually wash their hands after "doing the deed". They simply walk out. (I'm sure most of you have seen the Seinfeld episode about this...)

Solution: If I owned a restaurant, I would make the actual toilets behind closed doors (obviously). But the sinks would be in the open. So a guy goes in and takes a leek. Or otherwise. And walks out of the bathroom. He then washes his hands in plain sight of all to see. In an area just outside the restroom where there are sinks, soap, paper towel, the whole deal.

But if someone does not wash his hands, the entire restaurant will see it. Public shame.

Am I wrong???

Vito

Problem #2 Vito.
How many people open the washroom door with their freshly washed hand?
I may have washed my hands but how many people before me didn't, and left their germs/bacteria on the door handle.
I always use the paper towel I use to dry my hands to open the door.
I don't like washrooms that only have the blow dryer.

No, you're correct. I also hate people who don't wash their hands. It's rather disgusting, and it only takes like 20 seconds. Squirt a little soup on, put your hands under the water, and walaa, you're germ free. I especially hate having to open the door, after all these people have just walked out after not washing their hands. It's kind of just like touching their "tool." They just touched it, and didn't wash their hands. It's like that one scene from the move clerks, which is an awesome movie, you should go watch it.
"...37 times before me!!!"

I don't touch the sink with my hands, I use paper towels--not turning it on or off. I also use paper towels when leaving the restroom, or a open the door with my sholder or foot. This is the exact reason why many airports don't have doors to the restrooms. I also don't touch the urinal or toilet flusher with my hands.

Back in university I did a project on this. The dilemma was how to get people to wash their hands. I had suggested adding a kind of chemical that would die the persons hands unless they washed them (adding the chemical to the toilet paper, but this was useless against urinals). We had experimented with it and also tried an alarm system. It was a lot of fun.

BTW, if I remember correctly, 60-90% of all Americans do not wash their hands.

Richard

Elbow turns of faucet, paper towel to open door. My wife is a fanatic and has trained me.

It may all be for not however. There was a story on slashdot several months ago about computer keyboards containing more bacteria than a toilet seat.

And I thought I was one of the few that was really anal about this. A few good things have been invented to help...

Automatic flushing toilets & urinals (drawback...the "auto" breaks and the unit is not equipped with a button...and the morons still use it...nasty...)

Foot controlled sinks (although this is nowhere near new...sad part is they are more rare than ever)

Employee tags that sense when you are in the bathroom. If you don't wash your hands, you get caught.

I also refuse to touch the door handle or sink handles...always use paper towels for that...but if you think about it, there are many people who just run their hands under the water with no soap, then grab the towel lever. Now they contaminated that too. WATER IS NOT ENOUGH.

My ex-boss was a "unwashed hand" bathroom user. It makes you cringe knowing that every time you shake his hand, it ain't the only thing your shaking.

I should probably stop...both the phrases "touching their tool" and "anal" have been used in this thread...

Coming from a foodservice background I am very familiar with where bacteria can accumulate. We had an inspector come in once to do some testing and by far the highest counts come from the bathroom door handles, the taps and from the cash.
One reason I don't like to see the waitresses handle cash. Only the cashier.

The next biggest restroom pet peeve I have is people who use a paper towel to open the door and then throw the towel on the floor.

for the 4 months where I worked at burger king, you were required to wash your hands in the bathroom, then after you left the bathroom, would have to grab a door handle to enter the back room, where you would have to wash your hands again because of the germs from the door handle.

Most of the time, i would just goto the bathroom, then walk to the back and wash the hands.

I do not like the sinks in our local mall, because you have to hit the button to get 30 seconds of water, and the water is always comes out at the rate of a dixie cup per 30 second serving.

But yeah, i always wash my hands, i can't stand being dirty.

I thought that cow ended up as dog food

On the note of the push faucets....I realize they were intended to save water but come on. That 30 seconds is for the "first class" faucets. Most of the ones I see are 3-4 seconds...meaning you are never...I repeat...never going to get hot water out of that.....and that's beside the fact that every time you have to push it, you are contaminating your hand all over again.
