I wouldn't use the style of website as a judge of how good the company is. Some very good companies have crap websites.

    dathorn sign up

i've been wanting to sign up with dathorn but their sign up form always seems to be down due to them needing to get a new server.

It appears that they are getting a few ducks in a row as of late. Not to worry, Andrew appears to run a tight operations and would most likely be a solid choice.

most php scripts work on my servers. Safemode on is needed.

Yeah, except for any that need to use ANY command-line file execution, or include files outside of your home directory (therefore ending any chance of installing a billing system that connects to CPanel via the Remote Access)...

Honestly, anyone that thinks having safemode on is a requirement, doesn't understand how PHP works.

Back on topic... TEST TEST TEST, a good site design is $50-$60 from TM, and *some* companeis prioritize sales emails over support. Try a company, and if you aren't happy, or are unimpressed (keeping in mind you need to ACTUALLY email them to test their times) move on to a new company.
A well-reasoned assumption is very close to fact.
