    Very strange domain situation

Hi, I have a strange problem with my domain hosted in the US.
It resolves when the hoster visits the site and when godaddy visit the site.
But my connection times out on my pc for firefox and chrome
Even clearing cache and cookies in rebooting shows a timeout on the domain

    tracert shows an irrelevant IP
Perhaps my ISP is causing the fault?

Take a look at http://intodns.com/ and check for possible DNS errors. Also, it's a good idea to check the hosts file (location varies by OS) to be sure a custom entry for the domain does not exist there.

Intodns.com Should be of help in such situation, This happens due to DNS update in progress and not all ISP databases are updated at the same time. It usually happens in 10-15 Minutes but it might take 24 hours as well. so i suggest you to wait and try again later.

    Hi,

There are a few basic diagnostics you can run.

    1. Try and ping the domain from your PC. Does it resolve to and IP and is the IP correct ?
    2. Are you able to access any other domains on the same server/network if you can ping the domain and it still does not open ?
    3. If your local IP is dynamic, did you try doing a local connection reset ?

Its a domain resolution issue then. Check the name servers and domain validity of the domain.

It seems like an issue with your PC, you would need to check two things.

    1) See the hosts file of your machine and see if there are any entries for the concerned domain.
    c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts
    2) You can try flushing the DNS of your PC

On your local machine, open a command prompt.
Within the prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns.

Well you are right. You are the first person to nail it (my hosts file.)
    I see
    62.201.160.180 domain.com
    where domain.com is not accesible.
So do i just edit it out?
And why/who would it put it in my hosts file the frist place?

    thanks

    Hello,

You can put a # before like this:
    #62.201.160.180 domain.com
Some software or malicious software write in the hosts file.

I found and edited the hosts file using notepad run as admin
But when i look back at the hosts file, the line
    #62.201.160.180 domain.com
is still there and i cannot browse to website.

If there is malicious code that keeps writing this line to the hsots file
    how do i find/remove it?

Run a malware scan on your computer. Malwarebytes is good.

    Hello,

If you have some lines it forces name resolutions and bypass dns servers.
Basicaly the hosts file should be empty.

After you comment out the line in the 'hosts' file, or delete the line completely, try restarting your browser or, first clear browser cache and then restart the browser.
