For me, security is one thing I would like to see improved, incorporating something like wordfence would be nice but adding more useful features to it

    I'll bite on this thread.

Overall the WordPress core is not terrible, but it's not great either. Obviously a plane jane install of WordPress is doomed from the start if measures aren't taken to secure it and tweak it a bit. The biggest problem comes from the innumerable amount of poorly coded plugins and then the lack of management ontop of that.

In my opinion, one of the biggest things we see are plugins writing session and/or 'transient' data into the wp_options table, and then either due to plugin age, some random failure etc, not cleaning up after its self. It would be most helpful if there was at least some type of higher level review of plugins written and standards that would actually be adhered to, but then again if that was the case, all code would be perfect to begin with.

It's a powerful system, but over time, without proper management can become a nightmare in its self.

I hoe all of you realize that WordFence is mostly useless. You can't protect an ecosystem from within the ecosystem itself. It needs external protections. Not more plugins. You need to stop the person before he even gets to WordPress.

Again, proper logs would go a long way to helping with this.

Not really (and who you calling a hoe? )
I agree that you need some sort of outside protection, but wordfence is a huge step in the right direction.
