hosting company www.actwd.com hosted sites DOWN 24 hours now

We have a small web site hosted for us by www.actwd.com Sometime yesterday (5/23/2003) it went down along with our associated domain email and doing a search and poking around I'm finding lots of other sites hosted by them down for about 24 hours now.

Their 800 line operator will only tell me that they are working on it.

We've never had anything close to this with them for the last 2+ years.

I'm pretty disappointed but giving them the benefit of a doubt for the moment. Should I go ahead and be moving? I've read horror stories where the host never comes back online.

Ray

Well if you had 2+ years of great service with them and this one large interuption it would only make sense that you give them the benefit of the doubt and let them resolve whatever problems they have.

Maybe even ask for a bit more detail on the 1-800 number. And I would imagine if they didn't plan on coming back online that they wouldn't bother to answer their 1-800 number, and or just cancel it.

I agree, if this is the first issue you have had in two years, I would give them the benefit for the time being. Although they should at minimum provide you with a brief explanation of what is going on. I hope all works out well for you.

yeah, i agree with the rest, give them the benefit of the doubt if it's already been 2+ years

Thanks much for the posts and advice.

Site is back up now, email is working. Got an email reply to my report of the problem telling me all was back online now.

Just one of those things I guess. What got me concerned wasn't really that they were down for that period of time but that the 800 operator didn't offer something like, "We had a fire, the cables leaving our premises were cut by a constuction crew, we were caught off guard and no backup hardware when 3 servers went down in one evening." etc. etc. Not that it really made much difference I guess but human nature being what it is it helps somehow to be able to imagine the nature of what's going on.

Thanks again,

Ray

Here's the good news.

If you've had 24 hours downtime and with their 99.99% claim, you won't have a minute down till the year 2030!
